Swapped the 300k mile stock 91 360 out of my 65 D100 for a new 396" Dan Smith poly 318 and the clutch lets go as the secondaries come in, All stock type disc and pressure plate less than 5k mile carquest stuff. Truck has the hydra bell and I need a set up that holds but that the slave cylinder will actuate. 3.91's-np745-285/70/15...any ideas?

I'm not clear what your horse power is and the intended use of your truck but it would seem you're going to be "chasing your tail" if you put a beefier clutch. Will the transmission take the pounding? Just curious too, who Dan Smith is.

((I also have a 65 Dodge with Poly)

You sure you have the clutch adjusted correctly and don't have any oil leaks the could contaminate the clutch disc?

I'd give some thought to a dual disc clutch like the dirt track cars use. Probably wouldn't work well with hauling a load, but they work pretty well with putting power down.
I'd also have some concerns about the quality of the after market pressure plate in the kit your using, wouldn't think it should give up very easily, but then we really don't know what kind of power you are really putting down. A real performance clutch kit may solve your issues.

The factory equipped hydraulic clutch set up shouldn't be a limiting factor, it should be just as tough as a mechanical linkage is. Gene

Today is first dry day since posting originally and Im going to adjust the clutch pedal ht. to break closer to the floor or when your in it sooner, the flywheel on these is dedicated to the bell, with a step in it, 172 teeth and a d/d starter I don't have a pressure plate lying around from a car to see if it bolts up but the disc is 10 spline.I figure the engine is around 425-440 hp and a little more on torque. Dan Smith is local engine builder/Racer/Machinist goes by Qwikmopardan on here. Gene I hope you are right on my slave cylinder be able to actuate a heavier pressure plate, to be honest it looks like the same one I changed on my Cnt-900 many moons ago.

Are you sure the slave cylinder is allowing the clutch to engage completely?

I had that problem when I put a 440 4 speed in a 64 Dodge Polara I had. Turns out all the clutch slipping was actually 7.75 14 bias ply tire smoke...
