Anyone have one of these on their truck? I am guessing its a voltage regulator/generator? I got a truck with a sert tag for h/d alternator. It has this leece/neville 14 volt regulator and a giant alternator bracket. I did not get an alternator with the truck. Does anyone know about these? I am guessing I need some kind of specialty heavy duty alternator? Thanks guys.

Alternators would have been a pretty new concept in 65, most other manufacturers were still using generators during that time frame. I would suspect a modern alternator and a matching regulator would probably provide as much (probably more) power as that heavy duty 65 version. Unless your going for the date perfection thing, I'd just go modern, finding something that may well have been an after market product to begin with, or a 1 or 2 year optional part production may prove to be extremely hard these days. Gene Thanks Gene, that's what I just figured out. I've found a couple of police cars with my set up. Ive found a nos regulator and the corresponding 65 amp alternator. The problem is that I don't have all the bracketry and I believe it may require a idler pulley. I'm going to try and find a 65 engine harness for a stock application and use that for a regular alternator while I search for the old stuff. Its a unique truck with a factory spot light, so I'd like to eventually put it back to its original condition at some point.

Here's a pic of a BB Leece-Neville setup offered on E-bay years ago. Thank you John!! that is why I'm going to buy another engine harness and put a traditional alternator set up on it for now. I have the bracket that attaches to the cylinder head and the alternator but not the other two. Could be a challenge to find the rest of that stuff. Thanks again.

If you could find the brackets from a small block ( I am assuming that's a poly V8 but you didn't say) LA police cruiser with a 100 amp alternator it might get you close. I'm sure some of the M body police cars had them.

I'm sure some of the M body police cars had them. yes, that is my problem. there is an alternator on eBay but I have no way to adjust it. I wish there was a car type alternator that would work but the voltage regulator says 14 volts. there is nothing electrical on the truck other than a spot light that would require more juice and ive been told by a few people that the alternator is only a 60 amp unit. The Leece Neville voltage regulator says its rated for 40-65 amps. I'm probably going to find a standard engine harness and put electronic ignition in it until I can find all the Leece Neville stuff. And yes, it is a poly motor. Thanks for the help guys. If any of you have any tips on getting a charging system working with what I have, let me know.

Wouldn’t a higher amperage alternator work? Thats what im asking. Voltage regulator is 14 volt. That shouldn't matter. To me that is saying it regulates at 14 volts which would be slightly above a normal 13.7 charging rate. Most any alternator will put out more than that.

I would just get a higher amperage one-wire alternator, or a single/dual field alt and an external voltage regulator.

I would just get a higher amperage one-wire alternator, or a single/dual field alt and an external voltage regulator. I think that's what I'm going to try out. The existing wiring has a ground third wire coming from the box to the alt. but its just a ground. I would think a single field 60a alternator would do it.
