My shifter rods are much smaller than the hole in the bottom of the hurst shifter - where can I get the bushings to fix the slop?

Does a Lakewood bellhousing on an E body need a longer ball stud on the bellhousing side to properly align the Z bar? Haven't got a chance to mock it up yet.

Thanks,
Kurt

Try flipping them around? Man- The levers are made out of some seriously hard steel- I can't believe they would wear out. I had mine flipped once- just a brain fart.

Is it a factory shifter box ? I'm not sure what year the OEM chrsyler boxes used the bushed setup, if at all considering the 80's trucks with 833's didn't use the bushings and I bolted an NOS box directly into my 69 Dart using the original factory linkage.

No the ball stud is the same length ,, you need to check front to back skewing , did an install on a 71 challenger and had to trim the Z bar to fit using a lakewood on a 440.

No stock mopar hurst shifters ever used bushings. Are you sure you have an E body shifter? Should have a 7180 on the reverse lever. We do make some bushings that might work for you. Do all the levers have .50" hole in them?

I will check the diameter of the holes in the levers, as well as the #'s on the shifter tonight. It could be a B body shifter. To make a long story short, when I bought the car, it had the shifter mounted in the front location on the trans, and somebody just hacked a hole in the floor, it didn't have the correct floor hump in it, or the e body shifter. It had a B long curved shifter handle on it originally.

No it wouldn't be a B body shifter , no factory shifters used bushings as Wayne stated .

You should be able to order a bushing kit from your local speed shop or auto parts store.

Depends on which ends of the rods go in the shifter box ? if it's the adjustable end then yes , but if it's the fixed end then that pin is smaller than the pins on the rods that use bushings ...

No clue here on what rods and levers he has on the trans ???

I have the correct E body shifter rods, and the correct bracekts on the transmission.

The diameter discretion is on the actual hurst shifter mechanism and the non adjustable end of the E body shifter rods. I will measure tonight to verify the diameters. I could turn bushings out of delrin or bronze if needed. I just assumed there were bushings that may work.

We are the only ones that I am aware of that make the bushing in the 2nd link. It is an odd ball.

I am pretty sure that the adjustable end goes in the shifter box and the fixed end connects to the trans levers , but it still sounds like you have a mix match of original and aftermarket parts .

As far as bushing , use bronze instead of delrin or buy what Brewer makes .

Thats right, the adjuster ends go in the shifter for 1-2 and 3-4, on reverse the adjuster goes to the lever on the trans, good luck.

You have an after market shifter on your car with factory rods. Hurst makes steel bushing to go in the shifter. They will work fine. The only problem is the reverse rod. The hole will be to big even in the bushing for the small end of the reverse rod to fit snug. I have a super shifter in mine and it still works fine even if the reverse rod is a little loose. Get some Hurst bushings and new clips.

Thanks for the info. I am going to order the bushings that Brewer's spec'd out above - They have the correct bushings, and the reverse bushing also.
