I have a question. Out of all the crew guys, who was the one most likely to say 'hey I'll drive it!' meaning any of them quite capable of handling the car themselves? ...as far as crew guys not Carlton, and of course I know Oldfield already ran the Missle at one time.

Don Carlton was more than a capable driver - many tales have been told of his ability to repeat -- meaning if he was asked to shift at 8200 from first to second and 8400 for the other gears, that is what happened. And he could do that all day long - a natural test driver and an excellent race driver - but to answer your question, Dick Oldfield was also fully capable of doing any testing necessary but it is always more consistent to use the same driver all the time.

Cool stuff!!!

I remember being a little kid in the early 70s and hanging on my dads pant leg in So Cal at Lyons,Irwindale,Orange County and a few others while watching all the big dogs. Its great to see that old stuff. Brings back real fun memories.

I wish I had some pics to offer, but many of them have been lost. I have some old slides at my office of some Irwindale and Lyons shots that need to be transfered, while anything is still left to save.

What exactly was Ted Spehar's end of things as the cars/team went. I have seen the man's name in a whole lot of old articles about alll sorts of cars, even small block Dart stockers and someone had mentioned he was the real wrench behind the Silver Bullet or had alot to do with its build anyway. Wasn't Spehar's main gig tranmissions?

I am trying to gather as much info about Teddy as I can and will relate it to you as soon as I have it. Teddy was the subcontractor of Chrysler to develop and build numerous high performance cars and products - he also became a major source of Chrysler high performance parts thru his company (SVI) --

as an aside -- if any of you have old photos, slides etc -- I can scan them to a disc, and will do that for free (no charge at all) contact me via email and we can talk it over. I do not use these photos for any commerical venture, just trying to save the visual history of my passion.

I borrowed this comment
"If a thousand angels can dance on the head of a pin, then 100 million can disco on a Hemi valve cover."

I usually run into him alot during the summer months. He has a very nice 64 Hemi Dodge he drives around. He works for a local engine/dyno shop K-Tech.

Stewart, what did you do exactly, if anything, involing the Chrysler race teams back then. Maybe you have already mentioned this in the Old Race Car thread and I missed it. I seem to remember you mentioning some connection to Des Champs but not sure. The ole memory is fading here too lol. Any involvement/stories of your own to speak of involving any of the aforementioned players like Spehar, Hoover, Oldfield et al?... or have the 'names been changed to protect the innocent', lol.
