Are you guys disinfecting your cash? With talk about these checks coming in and banks not having the cash on hand it got me thinking. We have been using my wife's CPAP cleaner machine to clean our N95 masks, cash, and phones etc. Are you guys worried about touching currency?

I haven't taken cash from outside the house since this started, only gave a little out. What's in my pocket and house has been with me for months.

If I do get some in, i will just put it aside for a while

ACE Hardware here is now only taking plastic as payment. I just got back from Home Depot and they are still accepting cash.

As someone who has had their card compromised in the past I don't use it unless i have to. I always have $40.00 or so on me.

Having some cash on hand is always important. If things go bad it will be real important, at least for awhile. Hell, even a garage sale item you are not expecting to come across will make you wish you had cash.

I have been spraying my money with germicidal disinfectant spray every time money changes hands. I wear latex gloves, and an N95 mask anytime I go into a store, and use plenty of alcohol based sanitizer.

My rainy day cash has been in my sock drawer for months, so I’m sure it is safe. When I get new cash from an outside source, I put it in a box until this is over.

We had to pay cash coming here on the WV turnpike. 3 toll plazas at $4 each. I wore gloves and just threw the bills in the door pocket where they remain to this day. It's been a month so they are probably safe. Haven't touched any other cash than that.

I don't leave the house unless I have 3x that in my wallet. Can't tell you how many times I've been out and tried to use a card and have the business say "sorry our card reader is down". Happened at our local pub(back when we could get in) I paid my tab in cash, the guy in front of me headed to the ATM and payed someone a fee to access his own money realcrazy

i do have about $100 in my pocket though.
as far as getting paid in cash. i get paid in direct deposit. i haven't stepped inside a bank lobby in about 6 months before the lock down.

I set up my IPhone 8 Plus so it can be swiped as a credit card. No cash or plastic needed, as my credit card info is stored inside the phone.

Haven’t tried it yet, and not all retailers have an Apple Pay setup.

Doing most of my buying via Amazon anyway.

So you get a check in the mail (dirty money) and deposit in your bank account, what do you get when you withdraw (dirty money) ? If you write a check instead on your account and send to someone aren't you sending a dirty check ?

You have a choice, common sense or paranoia,it's up to you ! shruggy

Dealing in cash is not really much of a problem, the problem (infection spread transmission) gets greatly magnified when the transaction requires change to be given in cash back.

All cash transactions in this crisis should be exact change only, or any excess payment is forfeited, period, meaning money only goes one way.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Cash is king in my world...and it's anonymous. Clean, dirty, I don't care. They haven't put tracking devices in it...yet.

I used to love it when UPS would take cash COD.

Just have your own Ziploc bag with you Gus and have your customer count out the cash into it. Boil the bag or microwave it to kill anything that might be on it. I don't know if alcohol will damage the cash or not but if not you could pour enough in the bag to soak in for a few hours and then lay the cash out to dry in a well ventilated area to dry which wouldn't take very long being as alcohol evaporates rapidly.

I sprayed Lysol disinfectant in a plastic bag of the money and let it sit a couple days and then laid it out to dry on some paper towels.

You guys crack me up. Tough Mopar guys paranoid over all this. We will all get this sooner or later. No human is currently immune. Maybe not this month or next quarter. Maybe next year or the year after, but you will get it. You will either live or die, those are the options. I'm going about my life as usual without living in fear. I'll take all the dirty money you are afraid to touch.

I agree 100%! Take the cash, put it in your pocket/wallet...when you get the chance....wash your hands!! Don't let the stupid media get in your head!

I'm not saying don't be cautious especially if you have underlying conditions, but jeez, we've been handling dirty money as long as there has been money. Live your lives and do what makes you happy.

At my house, we use cash 90% of the time. I'm not going to lick my fingers to count it whenever it comes in or goes out, but I do wash my hands after I have handled money, before I eat.
Our county has somewhere around 30,000 people, at this point we have 11 reported cases with no deaths, and most of the reported cases were reported about a month ago.
I fully intend to live my life, I'm not going to take stupid chances, but I'm also not going to buy a protective bubble to hide inside of.
I even took the car on a 120 mile ride today! We only got out of the car one time to stretch for a couple minutes, the closest people were 20 feet away, and we didn't touch anything. I'm reasonably certain I didn't catch anything, nor did I put anyone else in danger of catching anything from me. Gene

I think the last time I got cash was in August...right before I left for the Mopar Nats. After I got home I put most of it back in the bank but kept a little to carry around. I still have some of that today. I use my CC for 99% of my purchases and pay the bill off in full every month. I've never paid a penny in interest. I have been wiping down my CC with disinfectant spray.
