My customer threw a rod in the 273 in his Dart. We're looking for a used late model 360, found a 97 van w a 5.9 for $400.....What needs to be changed, besides maybe the radiator ? We may use the factory EFI or put a intake/carb on it. Any suggestions here? Probably will replace the factory exhaust man, w headers.

Thanks.

Off the top of my head- passenger car oil pan & pickup. Over on FABO I believe there was a thread about Magnum manifolds in an early A ('66-back) and van manifolds were said to fit very well so probably good in a '67-up A. If you want to run the Magnum serpentine belt using Magnum parts AND a carbed intake, you will just about have to use an Edelbrock intake to clear the a/c compressor. No a/c, you can use the Crosswind intake. Also if you go carbed, either an electric fuel pump or swapping over all LA front cover parts and an adapter for the cam to run a mechanical pump. Not sure on the radiator but thinking about a similar swap myself. up

I swapped a 100k mile 1999 5.9 Magnum in my '68, and love it. I went with EFI, A/C and the serpentine belt set-up. Later, I stroked it to 408 ci and added a 4 speed automatic with lock-up converter. My next step is to supercharge it and inject methanol. That should bring it into the high 10 second range. Makes a great street strip motor.

You'll need to drill and weld a tab on both of the engine brackets. It needs the proper balance flexplate/or converter. The bypass hose angle from the magnum intake to a standard LA water pump needs a 45 degree adapter and the hose needs to be trimmed shorter. The throttle linkage brackets can be bent to work. Some early timing covers have a power steering boss as part of the casting. Different year timing covers and dampners have the timing marks and lower hose outlets on opposite sides. You need a car pan if it's a truck motor.
I'm installing a Magnum in a 68 Satellite. See here

van is a better choice. The ps pump tucks in closer to the motor. otherwise it sticks out too far under the battery tray.

Few things.
the la pan needs the la gasket. don't use the magnum gasket, it leaks out the front and back.
a guy with welding skills cut up the mag pan and put the ends on the la pan to use the 1 piece mag gasket.

they used to make an adapter plate for the balance issues but only for the 727. discontinued now. Some used it on the 904 by slotting a hole. Don't know how well that worked.

the throttle cable and kick down cable can be pulled from the van and adapted to the other pedals. But you have to get the parts off the transmission in the van. Where the kick down bolts up to. There were a couple of pieces as I remeber.
This only matters if you are keeping the factory Throttle body and efi.
if you go carb, don't bother.

2 different sizes. one is the post on the kick down /shifter part, the second bolts on the side to hold the cable at the transmission.

kind of see it here on the car

FWIW.... I got around this issue by installing a narrower battery and trimming the battery tray, as 5.9 van 5.9's are harder to find.

Here's a link to a thread I saved from For A Bodies Only. The thread is about 8 yrs old, so I'm not sure if any of the pics will work anymore.

careful about some of the info in that link.
I noticed it mentioned 318 pans, but I don't believe that is correct.
I think the mags use the 360 mains which is different, but I could be wrong.

When I did it mopar still sold new pans and pickups for the 360 which was faster than digging up a used one.

Do Magnum V8s in vans have different cast iron exhaust manifolds than Magnum V8s in Ram pickups?

I know the 1992-1993 Pickup Magnum cast iron exhaust manifolds have different internal diameters.

I know 1994-1994 Pickup Magnum cast iron exhaust manifolds have the EGR port tap on passenger side.

I know 1996-2001 Pickup Magnum V8 cast iron exhaust manifolds do not have a drilled and tapped EGR port.

I have seen the Jeep 1998 Magnum 5.9 V8 cast iron exhaust manifolds that are definitely different.

Are the Van 5.2/5.9 Magnum V8 cast iron exhaust manifolds a unique casting?

Van air filter assemblies are different.
