Was told 2 days ago that you become unemployed because of it. And most states unemployment is no where near what ya would bring home if you worked. That a extra 600 a week will be added to what unemployment would other wise paid you... Now I thought this was b.s. so went on line and and in the questions and answers from the passed bill. It does say just that... Anyone else know more about this? I'd really pimento know 100% if true or not. Our company shut down because of lack of parts from a supplier that is on lockdown because of it
Not trying to stir up a mess. Just wanting to know if true

No experience with this, sorry. I wasn't aware of this. Under the new stimulus package, workers will be paid an additional $600 per week on top of what they would normally receive for up to four months until July 31. Once that additional federal assistance is exhausted, they will continue to receive their normal benefit amount, administered by their state. From: LINKY For how many people would that be a pay raise?

I think unemployment is typically about half of what you originally made?
An additional $600/week is another $2400/month.
If you made $5k/month, and UE gave you half of that at $2500/month, then the additional would bring you back to essentially your original income ($4900).
So if you made less than $2400x2=>$4800/month, you would end up making more (assuming EU is half of your original pay, if that changes, then the other equation changes too).
Honestly, I'm not worried about it. We need people to stay home to beat the virus, but we also need them to not lose their housing and be able to eat in the meantime.
If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Some are crying because the now unemployed are making more. Then the ones working. On the other hand. I didn't asked for this. I am forced to not come to work.....i still have bill,s that I have to pay that I would normally pay if let me go do my job.. But being that mo. Unemployment don't pay crap (I get around 200 a week my job pays 13.50 hr) that's a huge change over a month or so.or however this last

Don't feel bad, I'm triple risk AND essential personnel. The hoarders decimated our inventory of product so we are back on 12 days on, 2 off with the expectation that we will volunteer to come in on 1 of our 2 days off. I'm just hoping the crap doesn't spread through our plant.
AFAIK, Unemployment pays a set amount, regardless of what you make. There is extra added for dependents, but it's still not a get rich quick thing.

Yep here in mo. I think the max was 300. Or possibly 320. Can't remember. I just know that I don't get anywhere that much And you are right about not mattering how much a hr you make...as the setups here at our plant make close to 24 hr. The 320 before tax is no where near their normal take home pay

Not sure how it where you are. But here if...ya don't come back when your to. You have quit. And you don't get unemployment if you quit Good. I'm not sure how that works here.... I was only ever laid off once back in 1986, and eventually found another job long b4 it would have run out. I looked up those figures above in order to send to my brother-in-law... He was still working up until the Governor put businesses in his County into full shut down last week.

Unemployment is about a third of my take home, $600 added a week isn't going to make up the difference, but it will probably make up the difference between being able to pay all my bills and not.
Long before all this happened I pretty much ended all my unnecessary bills, like cable, land line and such, as well as paid off all my debt aside from the house. I have some rainy day savings, but not as much as I'd like. Fortunately, I am an essential employee in an essential industry so I don't foresee pay issues even though we are only doing emergency work for the nonce. No OT to speak of during this situation, but I don't live such that OT is required to maintain my lifestyle. Any OT I get pretty much goes into the Cambridge or savings.

Tomorrow is the last day of the month, with the President recommending staying home another month, I expect massive layoffs tomorrow. Many places are paying employees until around April 15th-18th so there will be a huge jump in unemployment then. At the current number of 3.3 million the allotted $2.5 billion will run out long before July 31st. I hope people who started working a cash register at kohls a month ago appreciate their big $600 per month raise when they see a cashier at a supermarket dealing with hordes of people daily and making a lot less than $600 a week.

This right here is going to create a lot of hard feelings, and create yet another point of contention to further the divide in the nation. Which was likely the goal of those who opposed limiting total State & Fed Unemployment Compensation to 100% of your working pay rate. Everyone wants to help folks... But if 2 people work together on cash registers, &1 is still working for $300/wk, & the other is laid off making $700wk How do you think things are going to go if they ever end up working together again.... Especially if they are women.

My wife works for the school district as an instructor. Basically a step below a teacher. She is paid hourly unlike teachers who are salaried. With school closed for who knows how long, she has zero income. The school district will fire anyone who attempts to file for unemployment. So what does she do. One year to go before she can retire. It sucks. They can do that? My wife works for a school district & they left some people go this week when everything was extended out to the end of April. Teachers are still employed and not happy, because they are going to have to start teaching classes from home. The wife is still working because she's in the tech department, trying to make all the remote access systems work. But the bus drivers are gone... as are some assistants.(so far) Maint & cleaning crews are still working. But still... if the a school is not going to pay you, I don't see how they can block you from unemployment. That's really messed up if they can... worthy of a call to one of the local TV news "On your side" investigators. I'm sure they would love to expose something like that....

Without getting political, Missouri is a right to work state which means you can be terminated without notice for any reason. I have been fired from a job because of a comment I made about the boss, then he disputed my unemployment claim which held it up by three weeks. By that time I was working someplace else. So yes the school district can do that. I'm hoping that the extenuating circumstances will sway their policy but not putting much faith in that. In this instance it is not much different than an employment at will state. I thought there was a provision in the stimulus package that made it specifically illegal to fire someone for collecting UI? In discussing UI with friends in other locations it is amazing the differences state by state. TY K

Still working , orders have been up ..so far, this area never seems to get to crazy when things like this pop up , it might this time .. never know, But, been told that mgmt will continue to work and most of the hourly employees will work on projects like adding on to warehouse, etc if orders get slow .
we are in the building industry ..
Hope everyone is able to adjust and things get better for everyone in a few months , crazy times

When I was working full time I was making $1515.00 a week plus full Med/Dent. With this Fed money added to what I'd get for "Unenjoyment" I'd take home $1350.
So glad I'm full retired and drawing $550 a week and don't qualify for that Fed money. I had been drawing off my IRA's till the bottom of the marked rotted out. Been paying my Cable TV, internet and cell phone with my Visa card. If the market does not come back up I'll have to take the loss just to pay my bills.

On our weekly conference call/meeting today (we all work from home anyways, and meet once a week), we got the word: No layoffs, but a 25% pay cut for 12 months for everyone from the CEO down. Once everything gets back to normal (or at 12 months), we'll be restored, then get a 10% raise each for the next couple years to try to make up for the lost income. 50-ish employee company that now has pretty much no revenue since our customers can only do their thing in large groups of people
If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I was laid off March 20th after almost ten years of employment at the place, ironically i received my first social security check a few weeks earlier and was contemplating what to do anyhow: retire or keep working. I am eligible for unemployment in my state even when collecting SS, I have applied and will get my first check in a week or so. That coupled with the " stimulus $ "added to the unemployment I am better off not working, although I have found a few part time jobs to apply for that look interesting my wife says: are you crazy relax for awhile. She likes having me home so she doesn't have to worry about me. She works in a hospital doing psychiatric evaluations, not really front line with Covid 19 patients but I still worry every day she leaves for work. She has been dealing with " not clean" patients for years and knows the protocol. I didn't mind the job i had small company only 20 employees but with the current situation sales were declining and it was cheaper to have employees making less than me do the four jobs I did : CDL driver/ fork lift operator/packaging mechanic/ shipping and receiving I actually understand that, they lost their " safety net " As I could always be counted on to fix or handle a situation that occurred or pitch in. Oh Well as they say " its their loss"

I dont know about you guys... but i've made more money in March than i did in the previous 4 months combined. Its been a BRUTAL winter for me. Worst ov my life. I run cash businesses, and i couldn't squeeze a buck out ov ANYONE. I couldn't give anything away.
And then... they shut down the gyms. And here i am... sitting on all the remnants ov my almost-opened gym from years ago... basically all the stuff i didn't want to use, or thought was too worthless to sell (unfortunately i'd sold off all the good/professional stuff years ago... too bad...). Well... as it turns out, you can close the gyms, but that doesn't stop hard-cores, or even just normals who were getting into the routine, from needing to train. I'm almost cleaned out, after a whole week... and i had a LOT ov stuff. I had line-ups, text-ques 10 people long for single items. I put a single ad up last night, went to bed, and woke up to 21 Emails. Sh!t... so now i'm out there looking for more to sell. And i'm not even ripping people off like some ov these cretins out there are.

I took a voluntary lay-off from the dealership last week. I've been there for 30 years so they gave us old timers the lay-off option. there are 7 flat rate techs in the shop so as you can imagine the few cars that come in are spread pretty thin. I can't live on 3-5 hours a day but the UE check with the bonus I can eat and stay away from my 401K account. Some of the younger guys that are flat rate are staying there and earing what they can. Some of the things that employers are doing to their employees across the country is horrible and they need to be held accountable for their actions Gus

We are expecting staff to be developing online curriculum for students though.

I asked my part-timer if she wanted to quit and take unemployment because she'd end up getting more money. She said, no, she'd rather stay working and help me. I look up to her for that. I always kick her down something when we finish a big job so I guess this is just showing appreciation.
We are also having supply chain issues where our suppliers are out of components or sub-assemblies and can't ship. Over the years, when a customer makes a mistake (or we do, though that's rare) and wants to return custom-made product, I take it back and give them full credit even though I end up losing money on the deal. I do this for customer service. Well, after 17 years, I've ended up with a LOT of stuff in storage. I inventoried it and wow it's a lot more than I imagined! I am even selling the stuff upstream to my suppliers. Customers are will to take something that is a little too long or overkill on performance simply because we have it and can ship.
This economy is not going to reboot overnight - it will be slow coming back. Worse, still, so many people will have their savings drained, will lose this house, etc. Getting all Americans back to a good place is going to take longer. Healthcare, education, housing, and taxes have been so high for decades that Americans could not afford to have any savings. Now that is coming home to roost in the worst way. Hopefully, as we all get back on our feet, we can force some changes so that if you work hard and live reasonably that there will be enough leftover every month to save for the future.
For those getting laid off, use every resource you have to keep as much of what you own. This (now economic) crisis is just another opportunity for the vultures to do a wealth transfer from the working class, just like the housing crisis was.
Trying to enjoy life!

The wife was laid off from her job for 2 weeks then went back to work last week. She works at True Manufacturing, they make commercial refrigerators (like what you see in Walmart and restaurants, etc)
She said unemployment didn't require her to put in a waiting week so he got 2 weeks of unemployment checks and a $600 federal check was deposited Tuesday.
Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

They might be getting orders to build walk in cooler for bodies.. I know in Mich they are starting to look at alternative places to store them.. even skating rinks Kayse said as of last Friday True called 500 people at home and laid them off permanently. Most had less than a year of seniority, that was company wide. (they have 4 plants in Missouri). Some of the lines in the plants are only working 3 days (they work 10 hour days). The line Kayse is on the are still working a full 40 week (4 day work week). She has said that because the supply lines are only working 3 days that they'll run out of parts to build them soon since the supply lines never kept up even when they worked all 4 days. If you're ever in line at Walmart or Starbucks or anywhere and see a commercial refrigerator that has the nameplate says True on it, that's what they build. I don't think that they build walk in style coolers, but I could be wrong.

Well I'm not sure when that extra 600 kicks in here in mo. But when filed..mine. it said that was not doing it yet...or something to that effect In Texas they're doing it. People are getting it added if they qualify for state benefits. Those that don't qualify will still be reviewed by the state to see if they will get it. Sooner or later Mo. will do it - it's money from the Feds so there's no reason for them not to apply it like all the other states. It may take a while for the money to trickle down but I believe it will happen.

I go back monday the state of mo. Has found a loophole so to speak. The 600 was to go back to when layed off My case was middle of March. But there only going to back pay to last part of March (dont remember the date now) so in my case There is 600 I won't get. Even thou they screw us out of part of what we should get Our work week(for that week anyway) is Monday, tuesday,Saturday and Sunday. Missouri. Goes Sunday to sat....so. I had to claim Sunday work hrs onto a full week(next week) I was off...
I can't claim only 3 days of work when go back (I didn't work the Sunday the day before I went back) because work says i will.work a full week...but according to the state I worked 3 days. Monday tues, and sat....

Its money, that is reason enough for the state to steal, confiscate, re-purpose, "misplace" the funds, etc. The fed's will never bother to verify, they are in so deep in alligators in that swamp, your money is a mere grain of sand on the beaches of this planet. But it is a nice thought.
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

My wife works for the school district as an instructor. Basically a step below a teacher. She is paid hourly unlike teachers who are salaried. With school closed for who knows how long, she has zero income. The school district will fire anyone who attempts to file for unemployment. So what does she do. One year to go before she can retire. It sucks. Some states are allowing people to file for the additional $600 from the Fed even if they don't qualify state unemployment benefits. She should check it out.

And it will END on July 31st... again... Fed rule... written right into the Bill passed.

It's a loop hole if they make you claim a day of the previous week. When almost all business start the week on Monday So you have to claim Sunday. And that day comes out of what little you get from unemployment. And your last week. You are claim Sunday again as work says you worked a full week......yeah. that's a loophole

Well here in Ohio my benefits came through pretty fast and so did my extra stimulus checks. I think I've been laid off for too long now because I have to check my phone to see what day it is. The last time I was laid off was back in 1982 and that was only for the winter months. I'm really kind of looking forward to going back though my tool box is probably covered with dust. Gus
