Hey gang..
Well, I got the new anti-vibration springs for the front drums of my '68 Charger... Now, the part I wasn't too keen to think about before taking off the old ones; How do you get these suckers on?

The spring has a very high spring coefficient, so they don't stretch very easily..

Thanks in advance..
Troy

Troy, i'm going to be in that boat very soon...I think you are going to have to just roll them on and hope for the best that the cast paint won't chip...that's how I got my old ons on and off. Let me know if someone has a better idea.

its really very easy. i doubt the factory worried about the cast paint because they didn't use any.get 3 or 4 paint sticks have some help roll the spring over the sticks on to the groove.

Good idea.... I'm not worried about the paint, it can be touched up. Paint sure beats the greenbacks (120 or so) required to get new drums..

Troy, not trying to hyjack this thread but I'm about to install the oil seal on the inside of my front drums. Does the sleeve on the oil seal face in towards the engine (69 manual does not show good picture)? Also, what did you use to drive it home?

No problem.. The actual seal portion of the grease seal should face inwards, ie. to the motor/spindle.

I used a bearing race and seal driver set. You can pick them up at any decent tool store. Here's the ones from Harbor Freight.

Wrap the drum's outside circumference in butcher paper(use new), roll em on. Otherwise it's like tryin to bathe a Mountain Lion

Not to belabor the point but I did not take the seals out of my front drums so I'm a little confused...appologies to those who are immenantly more qualified...do you mean this side faces in towards the engine...

Believe the top picture is the way it should be positioned with the hub below it. Also, there. I'll take a look at mine tonight as well.. The seams usually will tab in easily, no driving required. The only thing that needs driving in is the races for the new bearings.....
