Correct, outlet was on the wrong side AND the raised section of the tank was on the wrong side too for a big block B/E upper hose routing.
We figured it was a mistake stamped tank.
Yes, it had a tag over the 956. You can see the solder remaining. I think the tag number over it might have been for a T/A. Can't remember what he said exactly and it that tag was not with the tank.
Someone was trying to show me today how you could pinch your hands between an unmodified trunk lid hinge and a Superbird wing if the factory didn't put spacers in there. Never knew that... And this radiator top was in the trunk.

Stampings on top of radiator won't be correct.
After vtaking a second look your right, the lettering would be on the wrong areas... pretty wild...

I agree, the numbers will end up on the wrong side.
The tough part about it is that raised wide section that goes with the inlet tube.
Bummer is, it's a pretty nice condition top tank.

That top tank is small block only w/outlet on the driver's side, there is only one flat for the outlet.
But yet, it was stamped (incorectly) for a 956 big block tank.
Factory goof ?!?

Yes, stamping error & re-numbered. Was this out of a T/A?
340+6 440+6 whatever it takes rebuild it & make new friends via Ebay!!
No, not out of a T/A. I think junk yard or swap meet deal. The owner of it might be toying with using it for a 70 Hemi 'Bird clone. But really I think its more of a conversation piece.
To make it actually work/look correct in car you'd have to section the flat part and solder in to the passenger side with the inlet tube. I don't think that would make the most reliable functioning tank though.
You could probably sell it to some unsuspecting soul on ebay. I bet you wouldn't be long terms friends with them though.

If the 5 digit number is a vendor code, different vendors made the radiators?
I did notice that number was different too. I can imagine there being two or more vendors for all of Chrysler's radiators.
