Hello Moparts!

I might got a problem with my pinion, a local welder back braced my rear axle, but it got bent from the welding, it was worse before, but I told him to try to bend it back, so I want to ask you what to do, leave it back another time or?
I put the rear axle in a measure machine at my work, I put it is flat against on one side and then it is a gap on the other side (0.099 in) as you see in the photos.
I was looking at a new axle from Moser to prepare myself if my axle is toasted ;-(

So what is your advice to me, leave it alone and install it as it is or?
Ps: sorry for my bad Grammatik

I would cut the ends off and weld them back with a narrowing jig.

I'd cut it otherwise that tire will have a
toe in or out issue (cant see which way is front)
just cut it most of the way through and tap it straight
then reweld it SLOWLY with time to cool

It's suprising how "bent" most 8-3/4 housing are from the factory. Even unabused housings are far from perfect when you put a narrowing bar in it. I guess the tapered axles bearing were pretty forgiving since they lasted forever. I don't think the guy did anything wrong when he put the back brace on but I also think that cutting off the housing ends and rewelding them with a jig is a necessary part of the job after a brace is installed since it is difficult to keep the housing from warping not to mention that the housing was probably not exactly perfect to start with.

I ran a bar through it end to end and also removed the spool and put the caps around the bar. Keeps everything straight. Not sure how to do that on an eight and three quarter (mine was a Dana)

If you have access to a tig welder try adding heat to the inboard side of the tube in various locations. You'll find that a little heat will cause ALOT of movement over that distance. A little experimenting and I bet you'll get it straight without any cutting. P.S. I also am sorry about your gramma tik being bad

That is the problem with 8-3/4 rear ends..The housing is weak...I bent mine so much the car sat 1-1/2" lower on the right side....Go to a dana.

You think 8-3/4" housings are bad, you should check out the 8.8 housings in Mustangs.

WOW, I must be really good... I've never had a problem
welding/shortening the 8 3/4s

I straighten most housings, regardless of brand, before I weld them together. I like to see the housing end centered on the tube.

Installing a through-bar or axles does nothing to control warpage while installing a back brace.

It's not a problem but just causes the ends to be offset from the housing which doesn't look correct but is correct. btw the bend/offset becomes much less as the housing become more narrow which is probably what you are dealing with. Take a look at a c-body, truck or van housing with a narrowing bar installed a you will see that the center of the bar is probably somewhere near 1/8" offset from the center of the housing end. But cut that same housing for a tubbed car and the offset would be much less, possibly close to perfect. It's also interesting to see the difference in the housing from one side to the other. One end might be perfectly centered while the other end is nowhere close. Good old quality control..or lack of. Oh well, it worked.

I know you are right, but I would rather have them in vs nothing. and welding them in 1" spots is the way I have done it a few times. are they perfectly straight ? probably not but it works well enough on a low HP bracket car.

I alway's cut the end's off then do all my welding and brackets, then the last thing you do is weld the end's back on with a jig to get the wheel bearing bores in alignment with the bearing's in the carrier,,,your bearing's and seal's will thank you.

Thats the way I do it, the bearing ends are always
last going on.... by rights that tube could be all
over the place as long as the ends are square to the
carrier bearings and I like the tire square to the car
