Application is 1979 D150 truck if that makes a difference.

I want to take apart the pivot assembly so I can grease it. Can't quite see how it comes apart
and don't want to force anything. It looks like the crank arm is swedged onto the shaft.
So if this is correct, then it must have been assembled by pressing the little serrated cap piece onto the other end
of the shaft, once the shaft was inserted into the cast housing.

So how do I remove the cap off of the shaft ?

I’m not sure on that model but I know people have drilled a hole and installed a zerk fitting into the shaft housing and greased it that way.

You can’t take it apart. Just drill a hole in the outer case in a place that you can easily access a grease zert. Then you can clean out a lot of old grease in parts washing fluid. Install the zert and grease away. I think Detroit Muscle technology sells a kit with gaskets, zerts and instructions.

You need to sand/grind off the area that's swedged over so you can remove the upper cap that has the teeth on it. Then the rest of the assembly can be taken apart.

To reassemble, you need to sand the upper cap so it's thinner then it was originally. With the cap slightly thinner, a little bit of the pivot shaft will stick up through it once again. Then you can re-swedge it in place.
