'68 Plymouth B body convertible - what is the correct finish on the top frame ? I have two of them in the shop and both seem to have a satin (to maybe once, 80% gloss) black paint on them. There is no evidence of any other finish, even under the weatherstripping channels EXCEPT the small metal piece that holds the w/s under the header bow. This piece is gloss black. It seems odd they would paint this piece and this piece only differently.

My 68 Dart sat for years with the top down so it's probably not the best example. However, it looks like a semigloss finish. I was planning on using SEM Trim Black on it. It's a nice medium black. Not to glossy and not too flat. I think you can get Trim Black in in quarts so you can spray it with a gun. I'm curious what others use.

Of the vert's I've had they were all a semi gloss finish, all a little different, they used gloss lacquer here but the gloss depends on how much it was thinned and how much applied. 67 Coronet, 69 Coronet, 63 Valiant, 66 Valiant, 65 Polara, two 67 Monaco 500 and two 68 Monaco 500. The small piece your talking of most likely just got more.

Years ago when I replaced the original top on my 65 coronet it had white outside white underside. The Legendary replacement top came with a white outside black underside. I called them looking for double white top and was told this was all they offered. Then I called around to other company's , same thing. So I was forced to paint my all original top irons so things didn't look terrible.
