I am reaching out to the Moparts.com community for some input about a car in El Paso, TX. https://www.racingjunk.com/Sportsman-Bracket/183155083/Dodge-Daytona.htmlI am interesting in buying this car, but I am now living in NC. Anybody near there, or seen this car before? Thanks in advance. 440 Jim

My son is stationed at Ft Bliss but wouldn’t know anything about looking at it. Now if it were firearm related he’d know all about it!

Jim, i would bet the guy that certified that car might remember it, and be able to help you out? Is this a rolling chassis or a running car? ET? Motor? Enquiring minds want to know!

He would sell it either way, but he preferred rolling chassis. And I like it that way too. I am not going to put too much power in it. Maybe 5.90 1/8, low 9's 1/4 mile. I just wanted a good chassis, better than I need. I tried to get a quick pic of the inside of my new shop, the lighting wasn't good this morning. But just to show it is finished. That is the 2-stage (175 psi) Ingersoll Rand 80 gal compressor . Inside the room (machine shop), I have a mini-ductless heat pump system (1-ton, 12,000 BTU)

I talked to the gentleman too. Seems like a decent piece. As usual I don't fit in every car and just don't think this would work well for me. So the search for a bracket car continues for me. 5.90 in the 1/8 wont take much HP in that chassis for sure.
BTW nice to see you back here and nice shop.

Moved machinery out of my race trailer into the shop This was the 16" Southbend lathe coming out. Winch holding it back for safety. The Bridgeport milling machine was harder, used pipe rollers for that one.
That is the lathe in the shop room. Walls were finished last month, no pics. Welcome back! Nice lathe! In 2008 I decided mine needed some maintenance. Finally just got it running again!

I don't know who built the chassis. But being a round tube frame, I figure it was built on a jig and not the shop floor. Looks like all quality parts and craftsmanship. Even down to the gauges, quality parts That is what sold me on the car. I washed and dried it today in the sun and wind (65 deg, 35 mph). Tomorrow I will make a spot in the new garage and wipe down the frame tubes with a rag and WD-40, while inspecting things like the heim joints, etc.
The machine shop is just one of my hobbies. I worked in one as a college student back in the late '70's.... Learned a lot and like doing it. With my welding, I like to think I can fabricate almost anything... LOL
As far as the engine combo, just putting some thought into it now. I wanted a good chassis, but I don't plan on putting too much power in it. Maybe 650 HP will move this chassis just fine for this old man. Good retirement plan!

Mark, Nice paint work on that lathe. These things are amazing. Taper attachment, thread cutting, 16" swing, 8ft bed, etc. I do use a 10" Clausing gear head lathe for most work. Changing speeds is easier with the gear box. But it is only 32" between centers. Awesome on the car! My lathe is only a 6 foot bed but honestly I have never needed it to be longer and my machine shop is only 12' x 24' so putting a longer one in the shop would be a challenge. I have a VFD on it now and am having a little resonance issue at 60/70% speed that I need to figure out. With the new Bison chuck its amazing how straight it cuts. Cuts better then the Leblonds we have at work. The mill I worked at bought it new in 1969. I bought it in 1992. They did not maintain it well but the ways are in great shape. I had the gearbox and apron rebuilt and bought a bunch of new parts. Its in really great shape now. I gave my Bridgeport to my brother in law and stepped up to a new mill last year. I spent the money on a new Atrump 3 axis cnc bed mill with a digitizer. Wonderful toy that I am still learning how to use. Will take time to learn it all. So if you need custom CNC parts made let me know........
