I'm having Titanium intake valves put in my B1 heads. To me, standard procedure has always been to put in Copper Beryllium seats along with the valves. My machinist is telling me that Ferrea is suggesting to coat the steel intake seats as opposed to replacing them with Copper. Says that they last much longer. Has anyone heard of this before?

I stopped using Bc seats years ago and switched to nickel bronze seats. First I've heard of coated seats.

It would be easy to call Ferrera and ask them.

Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

Coated valves last longer. The reason for BC seats is removing heat from the valve. Mold star 90 is the premier seat material.

When you think about having to machine the seat after installation, I'm not sure how you'd go about coating the seat, unless the entire head had to endure the process.

I'd say there was a misunderstanding, but who knows.

Agree...misunderstanding. CRN coated Ti valves will have a good service life on convention seats provided the valvetrain is 'happy'.

Be somewhere else when anything with beryllium in it is machined.

Salesperson/rep at Ferrea misunderstood. The valves are what get coated, not the seat inserts. Called Ferrea myself to get clarification. Thanks for chiming in guys. I'm glad I have somewhere to get some REAL info on stuff I'm not sure about. The turnaround time just becomes another delay on heads that I have not seen in a year, now. I'll live without the coating. At least I now know what to order for my next build. I question why I wasn't given this info/option when I was asked to upgrade to Titanium valves in the first place. Not a new process anymore.
