The problem with using a fork and a hammer is the arm is held in place by 2 rubber bushings.
For this method to work well, the arm needs to be held solid.
Can you unbolt it from the lower ball joint and remove the upper control arm by the bushings?

How hard is it to get the upper control arm stud out of the top spindle hole on the front wheel? Does it pop right out or do I need a specialty tool for removal? I never did this before and don't want to mess anything up. Depends on what you're doing. If I'm in a wrecking yard pulling knuckles for a disc brake swap then I use a pickle fork and a 5 lb sledge. If I'm in my home shop working on my own car I use the FSM tool to pop things apart.

I've tried hammering, etc... then purchased the factory tool (from Mancini).. and it was easy... wish I had it before I tried the hammer.
