Excellent. Do any of them have an amount? Anything to indicate when the motor went missing?
That's a great story.

I can't afford this. mark

did all that paper work come with the car ??

No Danny, I received the documents from the DMV in the early 80s for a $5 fee. The Texas DMV still offers an "Ownership History", but most of the early records were destroyed in a fire in the mid 1980s...

Thanks... glad you liked the story! None of the documents showed a sales price, so the only amount that I know is what I paid... $150

Over the years I have heard stories from different sources about cars that MAY be my Hemi RR. The first was about someone that bought a Hemi Road Runner to pull the motor for racing and then resold the car. The other story was about a silver Hemi RR that sat in the back lot of a dealer (car lot) or dealership (new car) for several years while a court fight dragged on.

I need to do some serious research using the Internet...

With the info you have, you may be able to track down the original motor. It does not sound like it was in it by the time it got to the salvage yard so one of the previous owner's knows. Of course, many 4 speed Hemi car's did not have motors that survived but you hear about them being found every once in a while. Good luck.

Thanks... I started my Internet investigation yesterday, and ran into my first dead end. Chuck Taylor Motors is no longer around, and the current occupants of their business location said no former employees were retained when they bought the business.

I might have better luck tracking down the original owner "Dan"... after 15 minutes of detective work using property records and phone listings, I believe that I have located his parents. The lady that I spoke with remembers her son having a car like the silver Hemi RR that he purchased new and raced a lot. He sold the car when he joined the US Marines... She said she would pass along my phone number to Dan.

Stay tuned...

so there may be a chance for me to have mine looked up. Can you hook me up with the needed paperwork to have this done.

What took you so long to get here Lon?

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, most of the early records were destroyed in a fire in the mid 1980s... but it is worth a try! Due to current day privacy & anti-stalking laws, you will have to comply with the "permitted uses" rules as well... see the form.

The current form seems to be VTR-275, look at the "Title Histories" section. Various forms, including VTR-275 are available at this link:

http://www.txdot.gov/txdot_library/drivers_vehicles/forms/vehicles.htm

Good Luck Lon!

The fact that I'm still in WY has kept me away from the internet for the most part. Hope I can come up with something, that'd be cool. My search @ Sam Houston State didn't turn up anything.

Awesome story! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Good luck with finding "the rest of the story".

Good for you Allen. I love to hear about another good fortune story about a fellow Texan! Especially one that invloves a 69 Hemi Road Runner in A4 silver. Man that has got to be my all time favorite color on a Runner. Here is a pic of my 69 A4 silver 383 4 speed Runner. While it is a lowly 383 car it is still a winner to me. As you can tell she has had a very hard life and after 40 Michigan winters it's still around. I let my kids use it for high school and they had more fun in that old car. Great story there Allen! JC.

Thanks JC... Seeing the thread pop back up reminded me that I need to try to call the original owner again (he never returned the first call, but he may not have gotten the message). Fellow Texan you say... what part of Texas are you from? Post more pics of your A4 RR...

Around 1992, white HEMI RR black strips w/ pewter interior 4-speed w/ 4:10's in the burbs of the motor city. Seen it again in the late 90's still looking good.

Sometimes it is tough trying to get in touch with previous owners. I managed to find the second owner of my A4 car from an old electric bill I found uner what was left of the carpet. He did tell this crazy story about the car. Apparently the original owner was into illegal type activities and was using the car for transportation of said stuff. He preceded to tell me that the car came with a 440 six barrel engine from the factory with a lift off hood. After the car was wrecked this cat started to sell off all the high buck stuff from the car to pay legal expenses and that is when second owner bought what was left. It is a Lynch Rd. car and the build date is right in line with when the order came down for the construction of the first six pack cars. The car is an "H" code vin and the tag reads almost identical to what the A12 cars do except the A12 on the fender tag. After reading the story about the red 4 speed "H" code car from Canada, who is a member here, I always wondered if my car could have been a pre-production unit given the second owners story. My car does have the original small font 054 rad in it. Also has the correct leaf springs, torsion bars. I am going to restore the car back to six barrel status and will always have to wonder if the stories were true or not. Either way these cars lived it up when the were new and I am sure each one has a story to tell. Sorry for the long winded post. I hope you find your guy. By the way I am from Ft. Worth, Tx. JC.

You could buy a 383 with the hemi suspension. Can you post a pic of the fender tag?

So David you like that custom fuel cell? You should have seen the chevy truck fuel tank tied down in the trunk with baling wire, it was a nightmare. My PP1 68 CTX is waiting patiently for her turn. I am so glad that I bought that grill assembly from you. I am sure that it will clean up and be very nice after I get through with it. Do you still have that 69 car? Here you go JD. Later. JC.
