My 67 is getting ready to go in for body and paint. It is a factory black stripe car. My question is since this is a restored car and going to be base/clear paint scheme (B5) what would be the best way to do the stripes?

Also, factory new cars were just single stage and were the stripes painted over the body color?

Thanks!

Are you really painting it a 1969 color? Or the correct color code 8 bright blue poly?

Yes factory stripes were over the body color.

In your case you can either apply the stripes after the color and before the clear so it will be smooth. Or put on the stripes after the clear so there will be a paint line like factory, your choice.

The stripes are also below the grille on the filler panel.

Yes, stripes painted over body color from factory. Original paint was single stage acrylic enamel. Except for specialty applications, such as organisal black.

"Best way" could be argued. I personally like a more OE look, which would be painting the stripes on afterward with single stage.

What Nantek says.

B5 has a couple variations (71 up was a darker formula), and neither are the correct 67 paint code.

Lots of people somehow confuse B5 with Q1; Q1 being '67 & '68, and darker than B5.

Do you have a fender tag, certi card, build sheet or IBM card to show the original paint code? First year for B5 was 1969. There is no code B5 blue before 1969.

1967 Plymouth blue colors from light to dark were code D, 8, and E.

Code Q was dark red metallic in 1967, and blue in 1968.

67 Bright Blue Metallic is most similar to B5 Blue but it is not the same color. The fender tag code is 81. Paint was a single stage enamel for both the body color and the stripes, they were put on over the body paint.
