I’m toying with the idea of putting a ex truck R3W8 motor into a 1970 Dodge Dart. Does anyone have real world experience stuffing a ex Craftsman truck motor into a A-body with a stock k memeber? Is it even possible? I don’t have a problem modify the k memeber.

I’m Just wondering how close it would be to fit in there? I know I’d need to run a motor plate.

I know the flex plate is a Chevy pattern, that’s no big deal and I can make headers work. The engine has a custom dry sump pan that is super short. I was thinking a guy could relocate the oil pump to the passenger side for clearance around the steering?

I want to run a stock K memeber if I can. I have a manual steering now.

I’m trying to make this a sleeper grocery getter if at all possible. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a cool idea. I'd think your issues may be with the oiling system. I'm finally getting my W2 motor together. Circle track engine. Figured out I'll need to run an external filter system. At least the engine is a wet sump. And has ears for regular motor mounts. Can you convert to wet sump? might be easier.

I have what's left of one in my 69 dart. Made my own headers from scratch, converted rear flange on crank to mopar besides the pattern, converted my block from dry sump to wet, did everything myself, you have to want it. Not easy. Blowing f2 air thru mine.

I’m thinking switching to wetsump might be the way to go. Especially if I want to leave the k member in it. I just was thinking it would be cool to leave it drysump.

Many go belt driven wet sump on those deals. Not sure if I’ll ever use my 9.0 deck core.... but That will be one of the decisions when/if the time comes

I definitely would not change the oil system.. you probably have one of the best oiling system that money can buy. . it would be a major downgrade to the motor. I think I would spend a few bucks on the car to accommodate That engine.I am one of those that thought I would be better By going wet sump 3 years ago. now I'm spending more money to go dry sump.. shruggy. Your best bet would to do a motor plate. And K member. And stay dry sump my opinion only..

Mark my current mill is based on a 9.2 deck w/t standard oiling. The 9.0 I have is dry sump with a Barnes pump iirc. It has 11 dyno pulls on it and was set up for extended dry lake bed runs.

Thanks for your thoughts! Lots of things to think about here. I have some time. What K member is everyone running these days? QA-1?

Jay, did you pick that one up at Mopars at the Strip? I was there a few years ago and saw a mill there similar in the swap area?
