The internal combustion engine (ICE) needs to go away. Die. RIP. Throw a rod. And I don't mean our collector cars. I mean as a mass commuter tool. It's what, 160 year old technology? We're in the year 2018, and it's still around?! Have we really been that dumb and lazy all these years that we haven't replaced it yet? Look at all the things that once existed and have been replaced by new technology. Yet this crude, antiquated air pump still holds us hostage.

Gas, oil, coolant, power steering fluid, gear oil, exhaust pipes, catalytic converters, radiators, oil coolers, filters, turbos, intercoolers, fuel injectors, pumps, hoses, belts, gaskets, and so on and so on. And yes, we still have...CHAINS! (or timing belts, but still the same function). My bicycle has a chain. In any case, cars are a disaster! They look like something put on life support vs a clean, functioning piece of technology.

If it's electrics that will replace the ICE, then let's go full charge into it. I don't care if some of my tax dollars subsidize it. It's better than filling up my tank and having those dollars go to the Mideast. Take all the aid we give to other countries, many of which are our enemies, and put it into electrics.

Thank you ICE. You've been fun. We had a lot of great times; lots of memories. If we feel nostalgic, we'll bring out the old scrapbook (which, by the way, has also been replaced with new technology) and reminisce. But the time has come or will come soon. Start packing your bags and don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out.

You could be instrumental is starting this "new Program" of phasing out the ICE by lobbying with your nearest Big Oil company...let us know how that goes

I love how people love to talk about how electric cars are "new" technology.

They have been around since the 1800s--if they are so great, why have they not taken over yet?

And when I say "electric" cars, lets be real. What we really mean are coal- or nuclear- powered cars. And what ya' gonna do with all those toxic batteries when they need to be thrown out?

Sorry, there are no free lunches when it comes to power. Everything has pros and cons...

Good point. With the atrocities we have committed against each other from the beginning of time and still do, that's not a bad idea.

Won't need to. Their days are numbered as well.

Problem solved. Then we won't need electric cars either.

Honest question: have you considered converting your Shelby GLHS to electric?

Hence, my point proven. An antiquated meat bag:

Of course they aren't "new." They're just now at the point that they can work for a lot more people.

Even powered by coal, they're cleaner/more efficient than gas. It also moves the pollution out of populated areas.

And while the batteries can be thrown out that would be dumb. Recycling makes a lot more sense.

As for the OP, buy an EV to help push the transition.

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

The thought did cross my mind, but would be quite and undertaking. I'm talking here about mass-produced commuter cars. Not our collectibles or whatever market is left over for ICE cars. My post was a bit tongue in cheek. But the point remains...we need something better. We're smarter than 160 year old technology.

maybe they are still around just because they are actually really good at what they do?

Do really think there have not been billions of dollars poured into finding something better? Millions of man hours into dethroning them? And yet in spite of all that they are still un disputed king of the hill, nothing else is even close. Fuel cells take hydrogen and generating that takes more energy than you get from useing it, As already pointed out electrics have terrible range, terrible charge times, still burning coal or nukes or hydro powrr, or wind (all stuff the tree huggers also want to abolish) there just is nothing close to satisfying the left.

Really we just need to face the fact the only reason the left wants to get rid of big oil is because they are jealous of their money.

Another expected response. Look at all the new technologies you enjoy that made old ones extinct and improved our quality of life. Yet this hunk of junk is still our prime mode of motion 160 years later. Trolling? No. Something to think about? Yes.

Why bring up such a controversial topic on website that is dedicated to Mopar and the internal combustion engine? All this subject is going to do is get our members fighting and arguing Perhaps that is your intention? I don't see the need for this to go any further.
