After disassembling the short block due to issues, my motor is done!

Its a new "The Block" RB 505 with Trick Flow 270 heads, 337 intake and one of Dwayne's solid roller cams. Its for my 69 GTX street/strip new build.

Should hit the dyno next week. Hopefully the power numbers won't disappoint.

PS - I hate computers. The picture is not sideways on my computer.

Its the new "The Block" made by the fellow from Chicago Connection with a bunch of other fingers in the pot.........

Issues included:

Cam would not go in - the cam bearing bores are tight
Dipstick hole too tight
Lifter bores - let's just say they were no good
Distributor gear drive would not go in - gear was hitting the block
Minor clearance issues on some oil plugs

Tony Bischoff (BES) fixed it and assembled the motor. He is good and knows how to make power.

Looks good....... but I would have gone in a different direction for the block color😉

Are you going to use the car headers, or do they have dyno headers?
Just wondering what size will be used for testing.

Did they do any more to the manifold besides port matching?

Nice! Hope it works out good on the dyno!

Never understood why someone would completely assemble an engine like that when the block needs painting...considering most don't want to paint brand new aluminum heads, new balancer, etc.

You must not know Mark. When that thing is done and in the car, it will look a piece of jewelry. Mark invented the word "anal".

I didn't mean the owner, he said BES built it and I've seen many other engine builders do this.
Just adds a lot of time masking off and prepping for paint.

I paint all my motors after they are assembled and ready to go (lots of cleaning solvent and brake cleaning solvents used to remove any oil or grease) and before dyno testing them up
What's a little time and effort masking them worth shruggy

I paint the shortblock before all the pretty stuff gets bolted on. Sorry for the post hi-jack markz528, I'm sure that's gonna be a good runnin engine! Glad to see someone who actually has their hands on one of these blocks.

Y'all don't like my primer color????? whistling

It's gonna be orange. Am I crazy for wanting to paint the heads? Might start a separate thread for that question. BES asked if I wanted it painted - nope. If it leaks I want to fix the leaks before it gets painted. I can tape with the best of them.......

I hope to use my headers but if they won't work with the dyno they have headers. My headers are Hooker 2 inch 5209's - same as I run in the race car.

They basically port matched the intake - but they got opened up quite a bit. No additional work was done to the intake.

Thanks Ron - Monte Smith used to call me anal also...........

5209’s have worked on the dyno for me....... they will likely be able to use them.

Nice looking build you have there. Please be sure to post updates as you get through the dyno and into the car.

I wish I knew Monte well enough to have had him call me anal ... RIP buddy

Mask the intake and harmonic balancer and paint the rest. Spray some brake cleaner on an old T-shirt and wipe off anything you don't want paint on after painting.

I use a belt sander on the valve cover fins, spray them and wipe off the sanded part of the fins. Nothing looks worse than big old ugly aluminum heads, water pumps and valve covers on a nice Mopar, except aluminum radiators.

Lol. My trip to the barber is to walk in the door, sit down and tell him 2 and 2. That’s a number 2 clipper setting on the top and sides. I pay my 13.00 and a 2.00 tip and head out the door. After my shower I towel dry my hair and dress for the day. Done ✅. Nice and simple. If we get a real cold winter spell I may get a 4 on top and a 2 on the sides but it better be damn cold. Lol

If you can get The Block and it still needs machine work to make it usable, how much does it really cost for a Ready To Assemble block?
