I normally do my burnouts in 3rd gear with a Hemi 4 speed and 4.10 rear gear 29.5 X 10.50 W Hoosiers on 12" wheels. IF I go to a dual clutch style that is designed to slip off the line a little, will the burnouts cause an issue with this type of clutch. I have looked in the Archives and looked on Class racer. Have not found an answer to my question. What say the experienced stick car racers? The clutch I am installing is the 3 finger McLeod Dual disk with steel flywheel. I considered and wanted an Aluminum flywheel, but could not find it anywhere.

I am assuming there is counterweight. So the force on the clutch disc will increase with RPM. When I do the burnout, wet tires, raise rpms to about 6000 then bring the clutch pedal up fast. I spin them at about 7000 for a 4 second count. (29.5 inch tire). Also, I think the trans will last longer if you do the burnout in 2nd gear. 3rd is the weak link. Jerico suggested 4th gear burnouts, but I don't like loading the clutch that much. Just longer in 2nd
I hope this helps

I have always done my burnouts in 3rd gear. I'd go with an aluminum flywheel. McLeod has them. Best to just call them, and discuss your needs.

Have you already purchased the McLeod? It is a good starter clutch. If you want the best give Rob Youngblood a call 208-880-6214. Never a problem doing 3rd gear burnouts just push clutch in before it pulls the engine down.

Oldiron, I tried 2nd gear burnouts years ago and did not like it. Felt it was too hard on the motor. But I will give it a try again. I was just concerned about the clutch slippage, since this one is designed to slip a little bit off the line.
YES It does have counter weights. this slipper set up is new to me as all of my experience has been with single disc brass clutch disc. I had to get my scatter shield modified to have access to adjust the Pressure Plate.
I know what you mean about 3rd gear being the wink link. I Went thru a bunch of the 3 rd gears and the sliders before I had Liberty to face plated 3rd and 4th gears. No issues since and they both look brand new after lots of runs.

Yes sir #1 Dodge man, I have the McLeod already. Bought it a couple of years ago from someone on here that was going to stick with Auto. Everything was brand new and still in the box. It has been sitting on my shelf for a while and I am just now getting to use it. Thanks for the input.

I've always done my burnouts in 3rd gear. Bring revs up to 3,000, drop the clutch and hold at 5,000 until you feel the tires stick. Counterweight won't matter since you are not loading the tires very much during your burnout.

Way more work than I thought, and life in general has taken up a lot of my spare time. It's all good though, and things are moving forward.

Yep that is how I do it now. I just wasn't sure how the slider style clutch would react to the burnouts. Thanks for the input
