I have been reading to stay away from Flowmasters. (Have had a pair of aluminized FM's behind a 440 in a '71 B-body since 1995...

Flow Masters will make even the most docile of motor sound like a beast. At least they did for an old 318 of mine. Lots of bark, no bite.

I have a full exhaust system with Flow Master on my 69 Road Runner. I bit loud, but I like the sound. It does turn heads. And sets off car alarms in parking ramps. I don't seem to have the drone some complain about. I am using factory style hangers.

Almost anything is going to change the way mufflers sound. Stock engine, vs modified, cubic inches, pipe diameter, crossover, muffler size, etc. what may sound good on one car, may not sound good on another. Numerous independent tests have shown, that flow masters, actually don’t flow very well. My car. 526 stroker, 3 inch exhaust with dynomax ultraflows, no crossover. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2d7zHk40Rhshttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XoXBvRqJuyk

Those welded turbo mufflers I believe are the same as "flowtech afterburners". I had some on my Dart before switching to magnaflows, and they had a nice powerful unique sound. I wasn't wild about the internal design of the afterburners, but, I didn't notice any performance difference from the magnaflows. I made a little video comparing the sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vc2zqjSTjs

My next one is gonna be the tired & true dynomaxes with glasspacks rearward alongside the leaf springs. "cherry bomb" parts house glasspacks are cheap & do not neck down where the end nipples are welded to the main case & the louvers are punched outward (both good for flow) but they do get louder over time like most of em probably do. To me the best would be a restrictive (quiet) system all the way back with electric or vacuum cutouts right at the connector. (keeps neighbors/cops happy) & the noise (& power) is there only when needed/appropriate). Control is always a good thing.

I had a Flowmaster 40 and absolutely loved it. In the search for more power and better fuel mileage, I went to this style: Man, what a mistake that was. Vehicle now sounds like ass and lost bottom end power. I don't care what anyone says: on anything but a full-out race car, you DO need a little back-pressure to maintain off-idle power. Not picking on your car Spaceman, just using the sound clip is all. Flowmasters on everything for Me.
