So, this subject was just brought up .

How many people run their bracket cars , without one ?

And, for those that don't .. ever hurt it because of heat ?

The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating.Proverbs 18:6

A good friend of mine ran a power glide with no cooler. It was a high ten second pro street 63 nova. The car had tons of street miles on it as well. The only transmission problem I remember him having was breaking the planetaries.

I have no idea how he got away with that but it worked for a long time.

Many stockers just run a loop of tubing that never leave the area of the trans.

No coolers on either of my cars. Lots of laps makes the glide about 220 degrees. That's the highest I've recorded on the Racepak. It really depends on how much power you are making. The BAE's I'm helping with now have turbo 400's and 1 has a glide. All three have the external ice coolers that are run after every round.

Sump temp or off the converter Dave? My new radiator I went back to a heat exchanger in one of the tanks. Has made my trans temps much more manageable, but I monitor fluid temp off the converter at my heat sink prior to the exchange so coming off the brake it can read fairly high.

A lot depends on convertor slip causing most of the heat I think then the clutch slippage.I should have put a temp gauge in a long time ago to help know what my heat was like.I did laser light the vert and trans pan and it was 180 most of the time after a run.
