I recently bought a engine r5 from Arrington auction. It was there display in the showroom. I was hoping it was going to be complete inside but was not. I've since bought another engine that was running to get most of the missing parts. I took a head off the showroom engine today to see what I got. I was kind of surprised to find a block with a solid deck. Every picture that I've seen of r5s has a open deck except for one that I seen that Weston filled with a plug. What did I buy?

Look close it has plate put in it.

They do this on lots of open deck import stuff.

The Ernie Elliot aluminium blocks are a closed deck, but as Brett said, it's looks like you've got a block with an insert in it. If you're not going to use it, you won't have any trouble selling it.

I thought the line was from the head gasket. I just cleaned it off and see the insert clear as day now. When I picked the engine up no one could tell me what was in it or anything about it. The crank that is in it defiantly is hurt on one rod journal. That block has ring and piston scuffs but the lifter bores where never bushed. Heads have never bin machined.
