OK, I had a 71 & 73, but never changed the tank on either. A quick search shows 68-74 j-bolts for $18/pair & those look like the ones on my 70. Is there something strange I'm missing?
I guess you could always get some 5/6" or 1/4" hardware store bolts about 6" long, stick them in a vise and bend a 90-degree end near the head and use a hardware store nut. That would work too.

Sure thing, no problem. I'd suggest you wire brush the heck out of the threads, or better yet, run a die all the way up the threads before installation. It's always awkward putting a tank up, so anything you can do to make it easier is a good idea. I've even put a piece of plywood on a jack to hold the tank up while I start the nuts on the j-bolts.

S I've even put a piece of plywood on a jack to hold the tank up while I start the nuts on the j-bolts. I believe the nuts should be pre-started on the J beforehand. The design is a variant of a "drop-and-go", a common method used in manufacturing facilities. Start the threads of the J-hook with it installed on the strap. Hook the straps into the chassis, hold the tank up and simply hook the hooks. Then tighten.
