Who is using what for header collector gaskets? Can just copper RTV be used? I live in the boonies and have to either drive an hour away or mail order stuff.

If you want it to last add a gasket.

You can use whatever type of gasket you choose. Adding copper rtv is the best way to make the gasket last.

I have several thicknesses of gasket material, paper type and I have some copper RTV. You think that would be OK?

Should be fine. I have used the copper rtv on the cheap white mr.gasket brand gaskets with good results.

You'll want to go back and check to make sure the bolts are snug after you drive it a few times. I think the heat causes the gaskets to shrink a little and that in turn makes the bolts loose.

I like the the doubled tapered donut type gaskets. Have yet to have one blow out.

On the collectors we use Summits copper gaskets.I have them on the cut outs also.My kid blew out 1 after having them on and off probally 50 times in 7 years.Mine have been off quite a few times in the past 5 years and no leaks. Now on the heads I run Mr Gasket Ultras only.Ive even reused them with no leaks.Rocky

I will order some good ones, just needed something to get me by. The snow is melting fairly quick now, maybe another month and I'll be on the road again.

Get the 1/4 inch aluminum ones they last the longest and can be reused. the copper ones are ok but still way better than the paper ones. Surprisingly I found the aluminum ones at Kragen. The local speed shop ran out of them!

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.
