My 2007 Ram just crossed 300,000 miles and I am getting myself ready for the day that I will need to put another engine in the truck. It is a 2wd shortbed, 2 door cab. I like the truck and I figure that a low mile 5.7 from a wreck may be an option.
My question is....Are there any unusual procedures to these engine swaps compared to older cars and trucks? I know that with some electrical stuff, a "reflash" is needed just to get it to run. I read from a used car dealer that claimed he had some late model Dodge that required a reflash after a battery change. That is a pisser!
I would plan to reuse my own electrical wiring.

shouldn't need to reflash anything, disconect the battery before anything and hook it up very last. In some ways they are easier than older engines, no timing to set, idle speed... but there are more wires to plug and unplug. I would check the dealer for a price on short block and or heads at least, if I had known I could buy a short block for my 2011 for $900 I would have been all over that but being an early one it may not be that cheap because they can't just pull one off the assembly line and hand it to you anymore but I could buy a pair of new heads and short block cheaper than a used engine, a little basic assembly work I could have had a new engine.

As far as actually putting it in and out of the truck I pull the bolts off the side of the block instead of the mount through bolt and I pull the intake off, just gives a lot more room and there is no water in it like the old SB. You can weasel em in and out with the AC still hooked up, just be carefull, I also like to pull the plastic wheel liners, I think it helps more on durangos than trucks.
