I run them with out relays. Might be better with relays. But haven't burned anything up.
My car hasn't been hacked up electrically. orignal harness.
Don't the car outside in rain without driving for long time. I had one with water collected inside and ate up the reflective coating. That was 10-15 years outside.

Honestly, for that price, get Hella's DOT and ECE 'vision plus' version. a) Autopals don't get good marks over on Candlepower forums. b) Add the cost in for good bulbs and its about the same price as a lamp with a decent light pattern and quality. Also, FWIW * The ad is slightly misleading to suggest they cross reference to Cibies, which are much more expensive. * The ad is somewhat misleading that European standards are better. Those Hella's meet both. Be sure you are getting what you need. Unless Steve has another car, the lamps in the e-bay link are 5.75" diameter. That would be for a four lamp system, not a two lamp as used on a-bodies and some e-bodies. Those use 7" round lamps. When using an H4 lamp, good bulbs are as important as the lens and reflector. You can buy + bulbs that are little brighter for a little less life without drawing any additional current. They also sell "white" bulbs and "blue" bulbs etc, most of which is hype and marketing, and I think is best to avoid. The bulbs that come with the Hellas vission plus are OK. I think I'm using I'm using Narva Rangepower +30s right now, and they're good. If you've got a 4 lamp system, your choices for good headlights is somewhat limited. see https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbt...tml#Post2251416and Upgrading headlights on 66 Coronet?

I have 7" lights. The one that self destructed on me was an Auto Pal. There was a guy at the swap meet that would sell them for under $30/pr or something. Of course that was in the mid 90's. I got a good used pair of Hella's as spares. When I was daily driving with these it was in the middle of LA. Not much need for headlights there. So much city lights you can't see the stars at night.

We run them.Had them in the 57 62 and still in my 65.I run 55/100 watt bulbs though. They do pull less amps than a sealed beam.Rocky

Mid 60s Plymouth service manuals show A-body headlight bulb should have been 6012. 40 W/ 50 Watt power draw. Full specs Later, these were superceded by 6014. 50 W/ 60 Watt. Full specs Given the same voltage, a bulb that is spece'd to draw a 100 Watts will draw more current than one spec'd to draw 60 Watts. ECE (E-code) headlight bulbs are spec'd at 13.2 volts, while SAE spec'd at 12 something. Providing more voltage reduces the current needed. That's one of the advantages of a good relay system, there's no voltage drops from the alternator to the lights. They also get brighter the closer they are run to 14.5 Volts. From Daniel Stern's website: Headlamp bulb light output is severely compromised with decreased voltage. The drop in light output is not linear, it is exponential with the power 3.4. For example, let's consider a 9006 low beam bulb rated 1000 lumens at 12.8 Volts and plug in different voltages:
10.5V : 510 lumens 11.0V : 597 lumens 11.5V : 695 lumens 12.0V : 803 lumens 12.5V : 923 lumens 12.8V : 1000 lumens ←Rated output voltage 13.0V : 1054 lumens 13.5V : 1198 lumens 14.0V : 1356 lumens ←Rated life voltage 14.5V : 1528 lumens Link to source page at Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy
