I just installed my new Trickflow heads on my 440. My old pushrods are way to short (9.2"). I have an adjustable pushrod, but it maxes out at 9.8". So I ran the adjuster screw way down to set the lash. With the pushrod at 9.618", the top of the adjuster screw is .089" above the rocker arm. I than back the adjuster screw back to where 1 1/2 threads are showing out the bottom and measured .478". I took .478 - .089 = .389 added that to the 9.618 and I come up with a 10.007 overall length of pushrod needed. Does that seem right for pushrod length? Are the trick flow heads requiring about a .08 longer than stock pushrod? (I know it depends on if block has been decked, etc.)

Also does anyone have the contact number for Smith Bro pushrods, it seems their website is down.

Sam was your block decked any? I got this short block used, but I'm pretty sure its been decked as the pistons are only .002 in the hole.

by effective length is that the tube length or the distance from the end of the ball to the inside of the cup?

effective length is from the ball to the bottom of the cup, the proper way to get that dimention is to use a 5/16 dia ball bearing and place it in the cup after you get your length set and subtract .312 from the overall length dimention.

The TF heads are taller which is why the pushrods need to be longer. I use 9.100 long pushrods on my low deck 470 with Comp roller lifters. That is a ball-ball pushrod with the T&D rocker arms.

The length will vary depending on the lifter you use and the rocker arm.

Call Manton(951-245-6565) for the best pushrods made on the west coast up scope twocents
I've used both, now only Mantons for best results and long life thumbs
Smith Bros. use to be 3 miles north of my shop, they are now 22 miles away in Redmond, OR. shruggy
I now wait for mine to get here from Manton in SO CA gladly, you get what you pay for from them thumbs
