Does it have closed ball type ends on it? if I remember that's how it is , its just a standrd u joint except the seals have been left off and they are lubed by axle lub. no big deal to get new joints but the seals for the axle ends may take a bit to track down. they wear out like anything else. If the seals are bad the lub will leak out. its like an oil bath when all is right.

It maybe a repezepta style joint, kinda like an old version of a CV, it has balls that it turns about....instead of a Ujoint.
