I looked at the pictures of the set you had and see what you and Streetwize are saying about the bolts 'tween the intake ports being a little longer. The stock ones aren't long enough, unlike what Mike at Chapman told me.

Thinking about the rocker offest again, I believe the 285s and the 260's are the same casting which means they probably would specify the offset rocker....but you'll have quite a bit more Whittle room if you care to clearance the pushrods to fit.....I used a bridgeport to do mine.

Again, from first hand mock ups an RB flat tappet will have a much straighter pushrod route than on a roller Low deck.

Brad I was going to use studs , the center studs would work , but the stud did not protrude thru the nut at all , it only went half , maybe 3/4 the way thru the nut , I like them to stick out a few threads so I did some searching and found the longer stud , I sent them along with the heads to CBK , maybe he has the number handy ?

Will the stock ones work , probably , but not for me .

Are those prices for a PAIR ???

FWIW, based on what Chapman is selling them for, plus all the stuff I've figured out will be needed to do the complete swap, this upgrade would cost me right about $4000.

For an old 20-footer street car that's probably only worth $15K, that's a hard # to bite down on w/ a smile.

I got my heads for 2600 a pair a couple yrs ago....all in I have maybe 3600.00....a lot sure but this is the first wedge I've ever had that felt like a big inch Hemi from the driver's seat in terms of powerband...and like I said Brad the only onewhere I've ever had to rely on the tach to shift because it won't lay over up top like most street wedges will.

I've driven some -1 and even some B1 headed track cars that were really strong from 4500-5000 up, but none have had the floor to cieling powerband like the Chaps.

yikes ...

But Brad you know you don't do this for RESALE value ...

Plus you sold your A12 , this would be a drop in the bucket ...

DO IT , you know you want to ...

Well, it would be a noticeable drop of what's left from the A12 sale $$$ after the family finances took a big chunk of it.

Yeah... just don't want to PAY for it.

refresh my memory....the 260's are sort of MW size?

what intake would you be planning on using?

that big cfm gain on the heads would get noticably reduced once you bolted a std port M1 onto them.
on the other hand, IMO the large cross section MW manifolds like a 440-2 will hamper how well the motor hits the converter with the stall speed you're running.

FWIW, i wouldnt be looking for 600ft/lbs out of that combo on our dyno, but i wouldnt be shocked at 670hp(depending on what the intake manifold choice was).

that EZ295 headed 448 i built a few years ago made over 680hp with the same CR and cam that you have, but only made about 560tq.

I think the 235s are closer to stock window, 260s are sorta in-between MW and stock.

Are yours still off the engine where you can measure the port size? I was under the assumption that they used a standard port entry... first time I've heard they're "in between" standard and MW. I couldn't really tell from looking at the pictures of your heads that I took in '05 when John had them at Carlisle.

I have the choice between the ported M1 we dynoed the engine w/ and a Victor 440 with whatever port work I decided to do on it.

And, yes, I was expecting the intake choice would be a compromise between max HP and keeping the torque & throttle response up.

I tried to settle this by the "scientific method" of flipping a coin:
- Heads => buy the heads
- Tails => cover my tail financially and save my $

Well, I flipped... and... it... came... up... heads. And, yet, I still don't feel 100% committed about buying them. So, that tells me I'm not ready to drop the cash on 'em.

Well, it was a cool idea in theory.

Sell the stage 6's ??? I could also use another set of heads that will never see the light of day once they got in my basement ...

Plus those would actually bolt onto an engine ???

kidding ...

Brad,

I'd be willing to let you try out my 285's on your motor if you want to come down for a week-end sometime in the spring, we can run at the new Charlotte track or at a Test&Tune at Rockingham, the only wild card would be whether your pushrod length will work with my rocker set-up (it should).

You know that Intake you sold me (which I have since sold) would be about perfect for the Chap 260's...those heads had a real nice port to plenum taper on them.

Cool... I'll give you the address where you can send the $1000 deposit for them. We can work out the rest of the details (final price, etc.) later, right?

Oh, you simply need to apply more "precision" work to solve that issue.
