Going to look at a '71 440 six pack 'Cuda tomorrow.
I will be looking for the obvious VIN stampings on the cowl, block, trans etc.
What numbers would I be looking for on the Dana?
Any other areas on the body/frame where there would be numbers?
Any input would be appreciated.

The only stamped numbers in the body will be in the cowl & radiator support. Then there is the VIN tag, fender tags, door sticker (if all those are original).

May not have a dana to check.
If it has the correct vin etc, no need to
look at the dana. Your just trying to
verify if it is a 6 bbl. It will not be a six pack.

It is a 4 speed car, and the pictures that I do have show the Dana in there.
Yeh...I guess "6 BBL" is more correct than "6 Pack".
By the way...what numbers on the data plate would indicate a Dana and what would the code be?

UPDATE!!!.....Numbers on the cowl, Fender tag, rad support and VIN dash tag all match, but I do have an issue with the door VIN decal.
It says manufactured 10 - 70. The fender tag says "B02" which I take to meaning November 2nd.
Is this possible? or do we have something fishy here?
Except for the engine not being numbers matching , this car looks to be real.
I'm just a little confused by the difference in the dates.

I do not think your door vin is bogus. Nov. 2nd 1970 was a Monday. Your car could have easily been built the last day or two of October. Remember the SPD date on the tag is a scheduled date. Not an exact production date.

I was hoping that was the answer...it makes sense.

One more question.....I am not positive that the car originally came equipped with a console.
Being a 4 gear car, it's possible...and the current owner wasn't definitely sure.
One of the number sequences on the fender tag must show that.....which is it?
The replies here are greatly appreciated!!

It's been rotisseried....and is nice. It's Curious Yellow with black billboards and black interior....new upholstery etc.
I seen the torque boxes at the rear spring eyes, but neglected to look up front. No skid plate if I remember correctly. It's an A34 Super trac pack with 4 speed, E87, D21. I'm drooling over it!
I need it like I need another hole in my head....BUT....!!
It's negotiating the price that's keeping the deal apart. If it is what it is, whad'ya think?

My only concern would be why it's been advertised for months at a price extremely lower then most other 71 V code Cudas.
In fact it was listed on EBay several times for almost HALF of what the other V codes have been listed for (mine included) and still NO ONE HAS TOUCHED IT WITH A TEN FOOT POLE

I understand the quality of the restoration is poor in comparison to the other cars, but if it is truely a authentic V code car then it should have sold ten times over at that asking price.

There was some talk about it on here before and I believe there was someone stating there was something fishy about the fender tag (reproduction maybe), but I can't remember what it was

I think it's a steal at that price, but I rather pay more and get a GY3 shaker car like the one listed here on Moparts

What probably happend was they had the car ready to go, but quality control caught the six pack and took it off and installed the correct 6bbl
Quote:

It will not be a six pack.

that helped him determine if the car was legit huh? I can see pointing it out when the term posi is used instead of sure grip since that is a non mopar term and a limited slip and a true positive traction are different. Mopar terms are mopar terms.... Inviolet is Plum crazy when we use FC7 no one can argue that, Tor Red is Hemi Orange EV2 is EV2, and some folks are too picky

I've been wondering about that car as well. Super, has the roof been changed? And does it look like the quarters were the old style skins with very poor joints?
Even with poor workmanship, if the car is not a rebody and the paperwork is legit it seems like fair value.

Is that the car coded for a rally dash on the tag, has a 72 and up cluster and a 2 speed wiper set up?

It has 2 speed wipers.....totally missed the dash thing to tell you the truth...but I beleive it did only have the 7G tach....is that what you're refering too?

Yes, from the factory it would have 3 speed wipers and the 8k gauges with resets through the wood grain. The car may have been a shell when the restoration started and whoever did the car didn't know or care to put the right stuff back on it?

If it is a super track pack car it should have power disc brakes and the code on the tag (B51 I believe).

I think it is the car from NC that sold on ebay about 6 months ago.Is it out west now?It had a bogus tag that had codes for other than ebody cars unless it was redone.Post the tag codes and get a decode here.

I've decoded this car.....only one code...M31...has me puzzled. I think it refers to "Belt" mouldings . All the other codes seem in order.

Superwrench I think why the person asked about putting up the fender tag codes on here is because some codes go with other codes for 1971 Cudas and if a code is extra or missing it could be deemed a posible fake fender tag.

Here is an Example. A62 Rallye Dash on the fender tag goes with N85 Tach on the fender tag for a 1971 Cuda. The M Codes all run in a row on a 1971 Cuda M21-M25-M31-M88. The person is not trying to be an know it all, I beleive all he is saying is we all would like to help you with this purchases fake or real.

I can either be helpful here, or come off looking stupid;

Other than Radiator Support, Build Tag, Vin(dash) tag and Door sticker, I know that my old 70 Road Runner had additional stampings on the rear trunk opening rail closest to the rear window, are the E-bodys the same?

If someone is going to Rebody a car, they'll probably miss that.

Anyone Know? I heard the Cowl too on E-bodies??

E bodies were cowl and rad support stamped, but not on the trunk rail like B bodies FYI.

The guy that owned the car, well, his handle on EBAY is hanks37coupe. He's in S.C. He told me he sold the car to a guy in Canada. I never got any good answers to my questions on the car. I had a bad gut feeling. You just might want to contact him directly.
