2003 Dodge 1500, with no heat. Radiator full, both hoses were hot to touch. I took the dashboard apart to access box thinking one of my doors were broken, but it seems that all the actuators and doors are working. I drilled a one inch hole in the box to see if the center door was working, and it is. (the one actuator that has a rod connecting to a second lower door) I believe that these doors are for air temperature. If they are, then I’m looking at possible plugged heater core I guess. Anyone been here? Typical Dodge Ram problem, if it ain't the heat doors, then it's a clogged heater core, you might get lucky by back flushing the core with a garden hose...been there done this too many times with these trucks over the years, PITA

2003 Dodge 1500, with no heat. Radiator full, both hoses were hot to touch. On systems that do not regulate coolant flow to regulate heater temp - If both the inlet and outlet heater cores hoses are hot, yet you have cold air out of the ducts, that tells you there is no airflow through the core. This is because if there was airflow thru the core, heat would transfer from the core to the blower air and the coolant outlet hose would get cooler. This is typical of an airdoor not working correctly. With a properly working system, the hose should be hot going into the core, and slightly cooler coming out of it. The hot inlet shows there is coolant flow through the core, and the (only) slightly cooler outlets shows there is enough coolant flow to sustain heat, and heated air shows airflow across the core transferring heat to the air. A hot hose going in, but a much colder one going out usually means you have a partially clogged heater core. There is not enough coolant flow to hot coolant in the core, so the airflow "overcools" the core. This typically shows warm air on low blower speed and goes to cold on hi speed. Both hoses cold usually means a plugged core.

Just back-flushed my '00 Durango. Heat works great now. I couldn't believe the crap that came out (caught the first bit in a 2 gal. transparent bucket). Be sure to back-flush in order to get it out. Tim
