Matt sat out most of the year with his car due to lack of funds driving my Duster for me on several occasions. After several issues with his 360 build we were FINALLY able to hit the track. Due to it being the Halloween Classic and getting very few hits ( 1200 race cars)we were unable to try any rejetting or tuning but it still clicked of a nice 6.54 pass. Pretty simple (basic build)

.030 (360) with stock crank
open chamber (340 style) ported Edelbrock heads
ported Victor intake
750 alcohol carb
under 11-1 comp (JE flat-top pistons)
600 lift roller cam
727 with 5600 stall
4.30 (8 3/4 rearend)
1 7/8 headmen headers
3200 pounds at the line

Can't wait to see it on the 1/4 mile but that will have to wait till next year.

Leaves really nice, what's the rear suspension/ shock setup? Had to feel good to get it back out.

He was so happy to make a few good passes. Its has a Caltrac set-up and caltrac shocks that we bought from a Friend 4-5 years ago. He put it on the car and never touched it again. I honestly can't tell you what's on the front but it may be the old 90/10 shocks I put on the car many many years ago (around 29 years) when my ex-wife used to race the car. This engine fought us from start to finish because I originally built it with a solid lift cam so I didn't modify the lifter galleys. We tried 3 different sets of roller lifters, a new high volume oil pump, restricting oil to the Harlan Sharp rockers, and FINALLY I drilled and tapped the front galley plug to block off oil to 8 of the lifters. A couple of other issues popped up because one head was damaged from a rod breaking in another engine and the piston tapping the head. He was shifting at 6800 and we didn't get a chance to try anything else.

Nice work indeed! Out of the box that thing seems dialed. Did you run a tranny brake?

Yes he did. He's a very good footbraker but he's slowly switching over after driving my Duster and a Friends 8 second Nova. He has my old CRT transmission with a transbrake that came in my black Duster and borrowed a spare delay box I picked up.

Thanks Ted. I hope to see that car of yours make some trips down the track. Its fun driving but even being able to pit crew on your own vehicle and watch it go down the track is like a booster shot for us "older guys". I was at Norwalk for 9 days in all kinds of weather and on the second day started getting back spasms on my right side and its still bugging me. My duster was leaving hard and it hurt but it was a good hurt if you know what I mean. I never did get my 5 second pass as it went 6.001 LOL

Pretty cool! Actually we are thinking of moving this coming spring. I hate to do it but may end up getting rid of my car.

John so glad you and your son got to attend this race together. It made memories you will both be able to share for years to come. Both cars are working really good. Hope the back gets better soon. Jim

Love the way that little motor launches. Looks like the suspension is worked out. Glad to see you get it out and have some fun...

Thanks guys. It was a fun year and a hard year at the same time. My car was running good and I pulled the transmission to install a 1.98 low-gear in my powerglide and opened a whole can of worms. Pulling the pump unknowingly I flared a bolt hole 1/4 inch away from one of the cooling lines holes in the case. This led to whipping out the band every 3 passes. After pulling, rebuilding, and installing the transmission on the floor 6 times by myself I finally took it out to a racing powerglide expert in ohio. It ran great for 6 passes and split the new (used) stock case I bought from him. This led me to buying an ATI Supercase and building one from the ground up. During this period I took 5 weeks off from racing for a break. It was a long long road but now I am officially a powerglide rebuilder so I learned something out of my issues. Hopefully I can hit the gym an get over some lagging health issues an put on some win lights in 2018.

I gotta really keep motivated Barry. I hate Winter and the 100 foot walk to my shop seems like 10 miles sometimes. Once I'm in there I'm a happy guy. So far The winter jobs lined up includes 2 big blocks to finish, one 408, the 422 in my black Duster, and at least 2 powerglides, but its early yet. LOL
