The best thing is to purchase Jim Schild's " Authenticity Guide 1965 Dodge and Plymouth Hemi Super Stock " documentary book. Jim is usually at the upcoming Indy Cylinder Heads Swap Meet at the Indiana State Fairgrounds next weekend.

Good luck...

Really! someone actually documented their illegal actions? Im not sure why they needed to swap body numbers? why not just run with the tribute?

Its not like the whole world now dosent know its a rebody when they attempt to sell.

The way I understood the story was that the body numbers and tags were seperated from the wrecked body to be sold or used on another car at some point and the original hull left to rot away. Were the numbers returned to what was left of the original body and restored, or was the wrecked body purchased and destroyed and the rebody passed off as the original?

I think it wont be long before either the web site goes away or the story gets rewritten.

thats a very nice correct restoration. as long as everyone knows its a rebody and its out in the open. i see no crime in that. its the cars that get undetected and sold for big money without knowledge of a rebody is just criminal.
my 65 plymouth went the opposite way. kept the original non RO vin and put on all A990 parts on it.
but i see no harm in what they did because its out for public information. the new owner can make up their mind if they want to buy a rebody or not.
i hope the price justifies the end product.

the bad part is they don't mention the rebody and are selling it as the restored original. its a real nice resto with a lot of detail. one of the known guys he mentions in his story knows all about it and told me over a year ago, he was glad they saved history rebody or not.

funny how if he restored the original where are the pictures replacing the floors or replacing the tubbed wheel wells or straightening out the smashed up roof he has pictures showing all other kinds of work

Looks like the cowl and upper firewall would have been the only original sheet metal left IF that husk had been restored.

It's a very, very nice car no doubt. I can't believe he doesn't mention a rebody. With the way that text is written, it's definitely a misleading story. And to call it the best restored A990 in the country, wow.

I wonder why he hasn't listed that car for sale here? This site is definitely the place to do that. But I guess he would have to change his story a little.

That car is local and I know Gordon personally. Greg Lane had a major hand in the restoration using mostly OE/correct parts.

Yes, most people know it's a rebody. Perhaps at some point many years down the road the car will try to be passed off as real. Most of us will be dead.

For the same reason I don't: Deadbeat tire kickers, low-ballers and picture collectors.

If you read the owner's description, it's being passed off as real. I don't read 'rebody' anywhere in the description.

The resto is great, not dissing the work. Just the description. If it was listed for sale here, it would surely get scrutinized. This site has some of the best educated mopar folks - tire kickers or not.

To thoroughly scope out a car for sale, you have to do some tire kicking. And a little tire kicking on this one would expose a rebody versus an original 990.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't kick it out of bed. But the price would be adjusted accordingly. But maybe his price reflects what he doesn't mention - a rebody.

Still a sweet car.
