Tried this post in the truck section but no response. Been thinking of changing over to the Hemi for awhile. The V6 in it now is getting a little tired so I have this hemi setting around and thought why not. Anybody on here done this? If so what do I need to get to install? No racing or pulling just normal driving. Will the V6 trans bolt up (4x4)? I have the car intake, I know I have to replace that and would like to keep the throttle cable instead of the fbw. Would the Durango be a good source of parts since the 5.7 Hemi was an option. Thanks for any help Auto or Stick? either way the Hemi will bolt up, as for keeping the cable TB, you can with a 4.7 PCM for the Dakota. YEs A 05 Durango would be a great source for the odds and ends pieces...I can't tell you if the Durango Hemi mounts will work..I don't see why not.

I found a guy on YouTube that uses '05 Durangos for frame swaps. I posted about it over in the general section. One of the guys response to my post was that the dakota frame is the same as the durango. Around here, '05 hemi durangos can be had for less than $3K. Linky to my post

Thanks guys great info so far, I'll be going to junk yards looking for Durangos, pcm, mounts, wiring and all the small parts. The truck is an auto, the small one I know, but like I said just normal driving. Be nice to find a wrecked Hemi Durango and just start swapping parts. Be nice to get hooked up with the guy using frames to see what he has.

Go to dakota durango forum under the 5.7 hemi section. Look for FrenicX post. He did a 2005 4.7 to 5.7 swap. Used the 4.7 ecm with a tune. HP tuners has the ability to tune said ecms from 04 and up. If you use the stock ecm you cam keep all the bells and Whissels with no check engine light. Matt Thanks, but mines a 3.7 V6

The motor mounts on a dakota and durango 4x4 are different, at least the drivers side is very different in how the diff bolts into it all and will need to be made.

My understanding is that the ECM are all the same, just the programs is different that go into it. I think you can reprogram the 6 ECM to an 8 and away you go. If not get a use 4.7 ECM an go from there. Once again I have not done this but will be in the near future. Matt

They did share front clips until the 2004 Durango came out, and the 2005 Dakota is designed similarly but not the same. The Dak is slightly narrower and has coil over front suspension while the Durango has torsion bars.
