any info that help with my decision making will be takin into consideration.
i want to start racing but i still like to build street cars. i cant make up my mind on which style of engine to go with. big blocks rule no doubt. but they are heavy expensive and the 440 is limited due to web cracking at high horsepower. i throw this into consideration becase it is not hard to make a serious uncontrable horsepower any more. after market big blocks are not cheap. (from what i can tell) if i go with bigblocks i will make my race cars and street cars bigblocks. that way i can interswap parts if i want to. if i go with big blocks i will use the 400 block. i cannot find the limitation of this block. can it handle serious supercharged horsepower maybe with a little block filler. and methanol. if so what is the max horsepower the block can handle. from what i can tell that is usually the weak link when you start getting past 750 hp. i am aiming for the 1200 to 1500 hp range. supercharged, turbocharged, are nitrous. (decide whent i get there)
howerver the new hemi is impresive. they dont make very many parts for it yet but i think they will soon. and the block does seem to be able to hold up to alot of horses. any info are advice will help.

with that much HP you will need a aftermarket block, crank, rods, heads.
what is the budget without supercharger system?[12K$+ ]

so your saying there is no way a 400 block can handle 1200HP. what i am looking for is a basis. i want something to build on for a long time. no budget just keep building more and more power.should i just start with an after market block. if so i was thinking of a mega block. just dont know how much they cost. not to much choice since i recently heard KB was closing the doors.

Your going to have a hard time getting a stock cast block that will handle 1200 horsepower.

Get a large aluminum block, preferably KB. Repairable and strong. 1200 hp might be doable, but with extensive knowledge, with a 400 block.

if you are going to keep going faster[more hp]the aftermarket is the way to go.i cant say what 1.the koffels place lake erie monster T/D makes 2K HP,B1 origenal heads, mid .700 lift cam on 40lbs W/14-71 on alky.use half that boost and 1500+ is right there i would guess.

You might have more response if you post this question in the race section. 1200-1500 Hp sounds more like a race engine to me. I couldnt imagine 750 hp on the street, not to mention 1200. I'm having a hard time keeping a 450 hp small block going straight down the road. I'm sure you'll have fun with it though!

you may want to give the guys at Koffels Place a call they have built a couple of nice engines with the KP440 block and I know at least one of them was sprayed.the blocks are'nt cheap I know, but it may save you some money compared to aluminum.
