Swapping an engine in my son's Ramcharger and installing all new bolts-ons at the same time. The problem I have now is the distributor that the parts store says fits, does not. It is also the only thing I am finding locally. Can I make the new(2) prong distributor work when the old dizzy had (3)?

what year?

the plugs are both attached to a plastic plate inside with the sensor.

You might be able to swap them out.

Or go the other way and swap the spark control out for the newer one and the associated plug/wiring.

Can't be too new, but maybe leanburn?

The old one is from a 1989 Ramcharger. The new one is the replacement according to advance auto parts, autozone, etc. They all offer the correct one as well but i t must be mail ordered...

Pretty sure your original unit is a hall effect with no vacuum or centrifugal advance. The parts store unit has both advance mechanisms and a magnetic pickup. It will need a different ignition system retro fitted. It will eliminate the computer spark control system which is probably what you want anyway with the engine change and bolt on's you're using.

You'll need the ECU, ballast resistor, wiring and wiring instructions found here:

http://wawii.com/m37/manuals/MoPar%20Electronic%20Ignition%20-%20elecignconv.pdf

The actual harness may be hard to come by, everything else is easy.

All this used to be available in one convenient package, P3690426, now discontinued.

search on the partnumber brings up 2 places you might still get it.

https://www.jimsautoparts.com/mopar_performance_ignition.htm
shows it, but who knows.

and
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Proform-Electronic-Ignition-Distributor-Kit-Mopar-Dodge-Chrysler-273-318-340-360/253126678466?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D47507%26meid%3Dd37e74565d91471ea38f31aed10b5203%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D331134788435&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850

not mopar parts, but looks like all the pieces.

if nothing else Jims might have the other parts you need as they are listed individually.

Thanks - went ahead and ordered the kit. Will return the other distributor which cost $100, so not too much extra cost. Can't wait to fire this puppy up!

Good luck getting the EFI to work with the 2 prong distributor.

Get the right one. http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1123749&cc=1097142&jsn=442&jsn=442

Or rebuild yours, not like it has any wear parts

I would keep the (new) dist with the vac adv & wire in an ECU/ballast. Schematics are in the archives.

& when it is up & running we can dial in the dist subsystems to get the most out of it.
