G-bob, your running a motor plate so why dont you simply look into lowering the engine alittle vs. where you had it located. I would mach it all up with the headers in place and see if your gonna have clearance issues with the tubes prior to making the lowering move. You may even be able to space the k-member down some if you have some steering linkage clearance issues. I would figure out some way of running the spacer by dropping the engine. It shouldnt screw with your front driveshaft angle all that bad.
I also nticed that you guys ran the engine using a mechanical water pump driven off the crank. Well, you got yourself some more ponies right there by running an electric pump.
Its gonna be fun to see this car run now. You definitely have the chassis for it. Have you thought of putting some radial slicks on that HotRod?
Good job to IMM!!!

Oh yeah, When the Victors first came out, my friend built a Victor headed BigBlock for I believe CarCraft and it made similar numbers. I posted the data and everyone brushed it off like it wasnt possible with such a simple/mild combo using those heads. Well, you guys proved it again.

Hey Bryan, do you have a link to the info on that CC mag build? I'm curious what they did.
I am looking forward to doing a full tilt build with these heads. I have already talked with a couple of guys who may want to build engines using these heads who want at least 825HP.
So we'll see....
Thanks again for the positive replies!!
Brian

Hello, they used the standard port victors with a victor intake. Here is the one I think your talking about. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/ccrp_0705_edelbrock_victor_440_heads/index.html

Thats the article. Thats my buddy Robert Hendricks in the article that built the engine. I forgot the engine was that small and used the standard victors. After the build, Robert played with it some more with a different manifold and carb and I believe cam and made over 750. Anyways, that is the article. I mentioned the power that Robert made prior to that article coming out and everyone thought I was smoking something. Oh well, very good cylinder heads. I almost used those for an engine for Bob Mazz. but we gave up due to a lack of spring height so we ended up with B1 heads. The only issue I have with the Victors appears to be in the springs height limitation. I cant remember if there is a spring diameter problem though. However I am talking about VERY aggresive cam profiles as such would be used for SuperStock style engines.
It would have been nice if Edelbrock would have made them for taller 2.1ish spring installed height and 1.625 diam springs. The diameter may be fine, but the spring height is a no-go. If the spring issue wasnt an issue, I would think the "All-Out" Victor N/A build at 825hp Might be possible. Still a possibility, we didnt play with them long enough to see if we could remedy this apparent concern. .800 plus lift I think would require 2.1ish installed height if Im not mistaken. At least with Isky springs.

Hello, just curious where would you start running into spring height problems as far as cam profiles with these heads? Thanks

I cant remember what the spring installed height was that we were getting with the retainers that we had mach'd up but im guessing that .750 would be about max lift at the retainer after lash and pushrod deflection. That would be using a 2.02 installed height spring. Im just checking the Isky tool room springs catalog however. I just cant remember what installed height I was getting when I was initially setting up Bobs Victors were. If we could get 2.0-2.02 installed height then I would guess a cam with .780 lift would be pushing it and .750 after lash and deflection. I am also not sure as to how the valve geometry would be affected by installing longer valves than what Edelbrock lists. That would give better spring installed heights but the geometry would have to be checked.

I installed my springs at 2.00", but it took using increased height retainers (+0.100"), locks (+0.050"), and cutting the spring pockets about 0.040". This was with loosing 0.060" install height to the lower spring locators/cups.
The springs I used are PAC 1325 valve springs.
These are 1.55" diameter, 150 lbs @ 2.00", 765 lbs @ 1.20", good for 0.800" lift.

The Edelbrock head valve seats are cut to handle larger diameter springs, but I am not sure about rocker arm clearance with 1.625" springs?

Here you can see how close the springs are to the rockers on the shaft.

Brian measured, and my 1.7 T&D's would have cleared 1.625 springs. If I had gone with a bigger cam, we probably would have gone with the 1.625's, but since it is "smallish", we used 1.55's.

Valley pan is the edelbrock piece they make to go wtih these heads. It bolts to the front and rear pan rails AND to the heads. Very nice setup.

Wedgie,
Nice of you to dig this thread up.
G-bob's had this thing on the track for a while now, and it'd be nice to compare the track notes to the dyno notes.

Well, I just ran my quickest time at PAO last saturday in 100 degree heat. Victor max wedge heads, solid roller, 1.7 t&d rockers, super victor intake, 13:1. 3530 lbs.
Launched off the brake at 4800, shifted at 67-6800, crossed stripe at 7000-7100.
9.96 @ 135.17.

Don't know the incrementals because they didn't give out timeslips on the "arm drop" pass, but it seemed to hook pretty good.

As was posted, I did a "bracket" type port job which means it fit the customers budget and HP goals.
I also wrote that there is more in them, at more cost. Anyone who can cnc port them should also be able to clearance them better for the pushrod angle and should IMO include this into the cost of the porting until Edelbrock can fix this.
Doin that would eliminate a ton of hassle.

I prefer hand porting because you can port for the combo instead of one port size fits all kinda thing, but the masses think cnc is better...

As for Gbob's car...I think anyone who's been around drag racing enough should see that his 60ft (1.44 avg.) is leaving alot to be desired as far as E.T. is conscerned. But he's like me, gets to the track once in a while and doesn't like to work all day on the car so it takes time to sort a chassis out. Especially when it was a street car for so long.
And he still has not touched the timing (probably too low) or jetting (probably too rich).

All true, and that 1.440 is my best 60 ever. Average is more like 1.455 at fontana. I don't have a weather station, so I pull the track weather conditions after the fact from that internet site to put in my log book. I'm still trying to find the best tire pressure, shift points, etc. And timing (32 degrees) and jetting is the same as when it was dynoed in March in Indio (basically sea level).

I've had the car out a grand total of 5 times since putting the motor in.

After the first time out with it at Vegas, I had the converter tightened up (although the flash was loosened) as slippage calculators showed it to be in the 13-14% range. Also went to a 32" tall radial slick, a 4.56 gear, and put the spool in it.

Since then, I got three runs at 1/8th mile Barona, seven at a street legal day at fontana, 5 at a summit series race at fontana and then 4 at PAO at famoso this past weekend.

I think the converter needs more tightening and the flash needs to be dropped 3-400 rpm (currently at 58-5900). There is no shift recovery on the 2-3 shift, tach stayed at 6700 on the time I checked it. (Still have to remember to check shift recovery on the 1-2 shift, sure wish I had a playback tach). Slippage now is calc'ing out around 9%.

I know I have a lot of chassis tuning to do. First step is to get rid of the prostreet regular steel (with urethane ends) four-link bars. I'm in the process of getting the parts to have some 4130 bars with FK solid ends made. I also need to re-plot to see where the IC is now with the taller tires.

As a point of reference, my first run at PAO was a 9.995 @ 135.68.
60 ft was a 1.489.
Website said the DA at that time was 3,296, temp was 95, humidity was 22%.
