I got a pair of Magnum head cores practically for free that I was planning on having cleaned up and then installed on my 318. I was talking to my brother last weekend and he suggested cleaning between the valves with a scuff pad to check for cracks before paying to have the heads magnufluxed, so I decided to try that tonight.

Guess what? That's right I found a crack, but only in one chamber on one head. So is it worth getting it fixed or do I have to find a different core for that one now?

No longer taking $h!t from anyone!

This has been discussed a lot. The general consensus is that they are all cracked in some form or fashion, and that they are not that deep.
Unless it is some sort of race engine, just have them cleaned up and run them.

If you are paranoid, then your only option is to buy new, because any used ones you find will be the same.

or have stainless valve seat inserts installed on the one chamber that is cracked...

I had stainless exhaust valve seats installed on all my Mag exhaust seats as a preemptive strike before they cracked.

CHEAP! as in make me an offer better than the scrappers would pay me. I went out and bought a set of EQ's and am putting those on instead.(on top of the $$ I have in these cracked ones)

I didn't know the new valves were the same as stock, so I figured I'd take the valves that went with the heads.

I really don't know a fair price, PM me an offer

H.R.Dave; you had PM'd me about that a while back; I do have (1) set believe it or not of used OEM Mag heads taht are not cracked (found out after I bought the EQ's) so out of a total of 7 heads' worth I need 4 heads' worth of them; so AFAIK I have 3 heads' worth of them (minus 1 ea. intake/exh so far) I'll get with you once I get that set of factory ones asembled (I have a few left to grind; all have come out "good" so far except those 2)
and I have referred guys from other sites I go to, here and to look you up with the hardware out of their cracked heads.

I think they all have those little cracks in them. I ran mine on a 406 for 2 years and never had a problem with them. If you were closer to me, I would take all of them off ya hands.

the EQ's shouldn't, as they have pressed in hardened seats instead of induction hardening the cast iron
