Usually I tube the lifter galleys on my small block builds and most have been solid lifter cam builds. We just finished up a .030 over 360 with a 625 lift Reed roller cam and Comp 828-16 lifters. Priming it tonight with an electric drill our max oil pressure is around 35 pounds instead of the usual 60 plus. Have any of you guys used these roller lifters on an unbushed or untuned block. It's the same oil we usually use and I always build them on the loose side for bearing clearance as it's race only. The oil pump was reused from a build that we ran before and had very low use on it so we flushed it out and installed it. I usually shy away from on high volume pumps as I had one stick and go over 130 pounds on a pass. If it's a standard pump and you guys ran these lifters successfully we may try a high volume pump before we panic

I have had to tube the block with 828-16s. I run a reed solid roller that is .650ish lift and it leaked like crazy past most of the lifters price to the tube.

All plugs installed including the often forgot one at the rear of the lifter valley drivers side. We slid a camera in the distributor hole and can see some leakage

I can always shorten the spring to drop the pressure but if the volume isnt there to begin with then your screwed.. JMO but I only run the HV pumps.. just put one today

May have found our issue and it's going to be a late night. Will update tomorrow

I also ordered a high volume Melling pump and picked it up today so hopefully by limiting the oil going up top and a few pounds of pressure from the high volume pump we may be OK. Matt is hoping to come over tomorrow night and my Duster is almost finished so we can hit it hard. I can't afford to bush all of our blocks but after seeing how much oil slides by these roller lifters I will NEVER build another one without tubing the block. Do yourself a favor and prime one with the intake off sometime to see what is going on. I was amazed.

I tell everyone to tube the block but they all tell me how hard it is, it doesn't work blah blah blah. Once you get burned by it, you find its easier to just tube them all and be done with it.

I tubed my 408 and I ran a solid lifter cam in it till it's last rebuild when I finally installed a roller cam. It lasted 3 rebuilds and needing its forth when a rod finally exited the block. It ran 9.60's in my Duster and 10.10'in my Sons Duster. This build started out as a nice solid lifter build that would be sitting in a corner till needed but my son needed an engine so I made him a deal to good to turn down. This is also my last externally balanced engine.

my 360 with the tubed block, standard pump, comp 828-16s and full time(grooved cam) unrestricted Oiling had 60lbs on the drill if I remember correctly. When I pulled it it was hot idling at 20psi and going through the traps at 70 something with 10/40 oil.
I have let it feed the rockers full time due to it being a street engine.

He's using Brad Penn 15-40 on this one to start out on. Like I said above after seeing how much oil comes out the lifters I will never build another one without being tubed. I think the last one I tubed I used 1/2 inch house copper tubing but there's probably something better out there to use. I'm 15 minutes from starting my duster then I can jump back on his if all goes well

There is a cup plug under the #5 cap that divides the pump feed and exit gallies. Could it have been removed? I have tubed every small block I have put rollers in, so I cant comment on lifter leakage. That's usually the first one I shove in after I clean a block just to make sure it isn't forgotten. Lol, but thanks

I'm 15 minutes from starting my duster then I can jump back on his if all goes well I get the tubing from MSC in 6 foot sticks. I also bought the reamer from MSC and I make it so you can almost push the tube in by hand, once it's peened it can't move or come out.
