I looked at a 79 LRE yesterday. A friend said that there are quite a few clones out there and to be careful. I know that the sales code for LRE is YH6, but that won't show up on the vin or data tag.

I know all the LRE came with the 360/4V. I also have a few pics of the tag that is riveted onto the radiator core support by battery but haven't been able to cipher any of that yet.
Anything else I can look for to verify if it's real or a clone?

Pretty sure the S in the 5th location calls out 360-4 hp.

The yahoo group can be helpful along wth lilred dads site. May want to check the frame rail for the vin as well as some have been changed. I do not believe there is any significance to the aluminum tag on the fire wall.

VIN indicates it is a Lil Red and as noted above - check the frame on the passenger's side under the door area - the VIN should be etched into it.

Yeap Lil Red, Vin Should be on the frame as said above but don't be surprised if it's off by 3 to 4 sequence #s My 8700 mile family owned truck Vin last 3 are 152 and frame is 149, of the 5 parts trucks 3 are on and 2 are way the F-off.

The 5th digit in the vin being S is the giveaway.
On the frame the Vin should be over the front part of the leaf spring on the passenger side it can be hard to find.
