Did 8 3/4" rear ends come with more than one location for the distribution block? The brake lines I bought from Y/O won't work: the RS one is too long and the PS one is too short as if the distribution block is in the wrong place. Any ideas? Cheers, Dave

Yes , I know A bodies have a different location for the block , changed around 69 ???
Sounds like you don't have the original housing in your car ?

Thanks John; that's what I'm afraid of. There really isn't any way to tell for sure. I thought it was the original housing but who knows? OTOH, I can't begin to tell you all the repop or jobber "stuff" I've purchased that bears no resemlance to the proper parts....just not sure which is the case here. What I should do is probably check the listings for early B body 8 3/4 cars to see if they got different lines. Thanks Dave

FYI , the early B body rears are narrower than 68-70 .

How "OFF" are they. I had to slightly bend the lines I got from Year One so they would fit.

Why not just measure the length you need and go to the local parts store and buy them?
Because they have about 6 bends each in them that would be difficult to duplicate; especially the radius curve over the pumpkin.

No, they are 2" too short/long respectively

Dave.....I have 3 '71 8 3/4" rears out of Challengers here....all three measure 17 3/8" from the inside flange of the left tube to the c/l of the vent bolt that holds down the tee. Two of these rears are still in the original cars and the other is out of my "Pink Turd" race car. I guess having 3 '71 Chally's in my shop is OK eh? Richard

I had the same exact problem with my 71 Cuda. The lines I got from Fine Lines did not line up with the block mounted very close to the pumpkin. The lines wanted to mount in the middle of the driver side tube. Turns out the 8 3/4 was from an earlier B body. Bob from Fine Lines swap sets and now they fit perfect.
Well, it certainly seems the concensus is I have the wrong housing. I WAS just going to order earlier B body lines, but now I can't help but wonder if I have an E body rear!
Anybody have a link to a list of rear end widths?
And thanks to everyone for the responses; much appreciated.
Dave
this ???
from the tech archive
Dave , I can measure the length on a 69 housing to the hole location tonight when I get home .
As far as changing the line , you might want to see if a 70 has a different body line FIRST . If it does then that means the location where the flex line connects may be in a different location ??? I ended up redrilling the A body axle I had to put it in the proper location and just Loctited a socket head set screw in the original hole .

Well from what I can gather; - all '60 - '70 8 3/4" B body rears share the same dimensions BUT the brake lines go from '66 - '69 and then '70 has a different listing. I'll first measure the rearend to ensure it is a B body rear and then it looks like I'll need to order the earlier (QRB45) rather than the 1970 set (QRB74) Thanks again to everyone for the help. Dave

Personally I would order the 70 set and move the vent to the correct location , I can't remember if the bracket for the flex line is bolted to the body or WELDED and if it's WELDED the early set may not line up correctly .
