About three years ago the start function in the key switch failed.
I substituted a push button in the dash, running directly to the starter solenoid .
Worked great for awhile, then recently the "Run" function quit on me.
This truck is a rusty old beater so a new switch in the column or a new column is not what I have in mind...
I am planning another switch in the dash. A 3 prong switch with hot going in the center lug and coming out one or the other lug to the ballast in order to simply bypass the key switch in the column.
So to start the truck I put the toggle switch in start, push the start button and then flip it to run once running.
The question I have is...
Witch lug on the ballast resister do I connect the "start" wire?
Witch lug for the" run" position?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried any testing to see what the actual problem is? It may be a bad resister.

Yes Sir.
The components have been replaced.
I realize the new ballast might be bad but,
still need the info asked for.
I hot wired direct to coil and it runs.
I just want to get the ballast back into the process.
I suppose a different coil might work but...
I'm just looking for an easy fix to get this thing running.
Just used for trips to the salvage yards and the dump.

I don't see why you couldn't just run 12v from your new dash switch to one end of the resistor and go from the other end of the resistor to the coil. Considering it would be the only draw it should give you 9v or so at the coil and that should be enough to start the truck. After all that's the power it uses when you are in the run circuit of the ignition switch normally. If that wouldn't work some one will correct me.

Makes sense.
Worth a try.
It's a dual ballast.
Guess it's time to get a volt meter to figure out which side to use.
Thanx.

Turns out to be the lug with the 2 heavily insulated 16 gauge wires.
Going to add a fuse-able link here just in case.
The truck is now running fine and I have been to the dump.
There is a 57 Fury (Good Fins and tail lights)
and a 53 Chrysler (Good front clip) in a local yard.
The Hemi is gone but the poly will be different.
Time to go.
