Would it have been easier to just buy the top plate for the Melling HV pump on the motor now ?

DO NOT do that Unless your willing to fail and find out the hard way, Will the Milidon pump cover come even close to bolting on the KB pump? I have one of those used KB pumps that I may use someday, maybe not and keep it for a conversation piece in my office

No Cab, the motor already has a melling H/V internal set up, i was talking about plugging the internal feed and fit a top plate for an external feed and not bother with the KB pump at all.

So, let me see if i've got this right, the blank in the back of the top cover is where the feed would normally come from the sump, the bottom one in the top pic on the main body is the outlet to the remote filter and the top fitting on the main body is the return from filter ? No, the top one is the pressure out to the remote filter and the bottom one is where you connect the line from the remote filter. This feeds the engine.

I use the Milodon 21815 oil pump on my hemi. It has one inlet built into the pump body itself. I use a factory cast iron oil pump cover b/c I like the factory filter location. Remote filters are a PITA in my opinion. My pickup line does not have a loop in it...it goes straight down out the pump and into the side of the oil pan. I've never had any trouble w/ it losing prime in 14 years. I have 2 cars w/ similar setups w/ no issues. The other car (road runner) has a Melling HV oil pump, but a Milodon cover w/ the pickup line on it. Here's the Milodon pump I use. http://www.manciniracing.com/brbhemwedalp.html

Milidon has a new pump housing and rotor design that is very nice. If I were running an external line, I would look at either their pump body with the line going into the side of it, or this new pump body with the 3/4 " plate and cast-in fitting that bolts under the pump body. It eliminates the need for that big pump cover with fitting. Seems like a cleaner set-up to me.
Maybe AndyF or someone has tried all these combinations, checked any flow variation and has some input. I run one on the 572 and one on the 655, both have the plates for remote filter. Works great 50 psi at idle hot and 70 at max rpm, I use the adjustable milodon bypass. The only thing to watch out for is over tightening the housing IIRC I tightened them to 15ft lb.
