Finally a HUSKER again
HAs anyone seen the track lately? Its GONE!! Nothing at all. They ripped up the track which was like 4ft thick in places. It used to be an air strip. I drove up there the other day, I wish I had a camera cause its truely sad. Nothing but fields. I used to have a lot of fun up there. Broke a lot of u joints scattered, and broken wheel studs.

Anyone have any pictures??

I dont.

Kasey

He was kinda greedy wanting the town to pave the road because people didnt want to drive there cars on gravel. IMO than they shouldnt have gone. I was there once when it was open but I just watched. That does kinda suck though. Have you been to Mid America Motorplex in Iowa? Wish it was 1/4 and not 1/8th.

Where is the track at in Iowa?

He fought with Scribner for years before throwing in the towel. Rumor has it the same guy is "suposed to" build another track in or around lincoln/Omaha area.

Although it's sad to see any track tore up I will never miss that track. By far the worst track I've ever been on. Nothing against the racers there but the ownership and track itself needed more than help.

Doug Herbert, Big Daddy, and Sherly Muldowny loved that track!! I have talked to them on a few occassions and they had nothing but great things to say about it, Well the shut down was a bit short for 300+ mph passes, but they all did it there. I watched Shirley, and Don go at it back in 94 or 95, Shirley Won the event.

Yeah what a waste. Many great memories at Scribner. I don't have any pics but I have a few videos running the bee there. Greg Sanford (previous owner) was the one trying to get the track going in Lincoln. But the county would have nothing to do with it. After he was shot down there nobody has heard a thing from him. His web site nemotorplex.com is a ghost town. It will be interesting to see what kind of car count Kearney will get this year with the economy the way it is. I know I'll be lucky to make it at all this year. Just too bad what happened to Scribner. LATER

Take I-29 south to the Glenwood exit... can't miss it. About a 20-25 min drive from Omaha.

Mid America is a great 1/8th mile track. Well ran.

I think Kearney will always strugle until one guy owns the show. They do nothing to draw a crowd. They crowd should pay the bills. Not the cars. Every year they have a S/SS combo race and cars come out of the woodwork. Thats the best race of the year. Wrong month of the year but definately the best.

In it's last couple years Scribner went to crap in a hurry. Amazing what happens in 10 years. We raced Kearney forever, lots of great people and friends there. We just got tired of spending $500 on a weekend to end up with a $16 3rd place check. Last first place check I got from Kearney was $188.50. I never expected to get rich from racing but at some point the track needs to give back to the racers.

That payout sucks! I won't unload my junk for no less then a $400 purse. It costs me a min of $150 with $50 going to entry fee to race a single day event at MAM and this doesn't include the wear and tear!

I love racing at Kearney, but you are 100% correct. Their payouts leave a lot to be desired.

We are supposed to be doing this because it is fun though, right?

It was pretty much the last straw at Kearney when I entered a bracket bonanza for $125 and ended up with $75 for 3rd. Pro and Super Pro was combined. I hope since Al took over management that things have changed.

I have many Scribner stories ..
Man, we tore Fremont up at night !!

I helped my OL buddy Fergen work his way to the final at a national event there in IHRA

It was easy 115 degrees , we were running the 10.90 class "hot rod" most of us got whopped 1st round by the traveling pros

Fergies Vette would carry the fronts out to about the 90 foot mark easy on every pass , it was great !!

The heat, the pressure, the pros got us in the finals but.. we were all to happy to take RU make the ESPN highlights for years to come !!

I think he banked 14k for the runner up IIRC
