1967 Chrysler Corp VIN plates are riveted from the factory, they are different than the older ones.

We were talking about a 66 not a 67.

Supercuda, I was clearing up the misinformation that YOU posted about 67 VIV tag rivets. The "someone" who did that was an employee of the Chrysler Corporation.

so to fix my old brain, 66 was spot welded and 67 changed to rivets ? i don't want to spread mistaken information. too much of that already out there ! please clarify this for me if i am mistaken. i am positive, however, screws were never used on a vin tag.

I have 6 '66 B body cars right now. Four of them have rivets on the VIN. Two of them do not.

1967 all had rivets. Ive owned and been around hundreds of them in the past 33 years of ownership. You can see in the pictures I posted above, The VIN tags completely changed, shape size, stamping, with added black silk screening from 66 to 67.

I'm not a 66 owner so I don't know what they had wonder if it is a build date or build plant. I looked up about 8 1966 cars at the same dealership, all had rivets, some were round head, most were the rosette type.

You know it is a potential problem when people and law enforcement don't know the early Mopar VIN tags had empty holes.

I had 2 '66 A bodies, a Dart 170 and a Valiant 100.
Both VINs were riveted, both were late build, SPD's in May.

I went thru a bunch of '66 VIN tag pics - I found none that were welded,
the following appear old/original & rosette rivets (lowest VIN sequence found):

plant 1 - Lynch Rd - 102xxx
plant 2 - Hamtramck - 146xxx
plant 3 - Jefferson - 162xxx
plant 4 - Belvidere - 169xxx
plant 5 - Los Angeles - 101xxx, 515xxx
plant 6 - Newark - 220xxx
plant 7 - St. Louis - 144xxx
plant 9 - Windsor - 221xxx

I know the VINs on my 65 Barracudas were spot welded on.

ok. so now i need to remember [?] 65 was the last tag spot welded, and 66 up is riveted ? you would think i should have this burned into my mind as i owned a junkyard [correct terminology of the day] from 1972 to 1984, and dealt with these cars every day. it's not a great thing getting old [you know the "golden years" saying, and i'm here to tell ya it's true !].

You would be incorrect.. I know for a fact that screws were used at least till the early 1950's by Dodge and I believe on Chevy trucks through 1963..
