We have a 72 Roadrunner that I am trying to find additional documentation and pricing info for. I have heard of the ever elusive "1972 Roadrunner Option and Accessory Report" but have yet to see one or find a place to purchase one.

What I would really like to have is a list that gives the production numbers and window sticker (or MSRP) pricing for the options our car came with, according to fender tag (our buildsheet was a mouse's dinner).

Does anyone here know where to get that kind of info?

Galen Govier is the one who used to sell the O & A reports.

I've got an old copy of the Roadrunner/GTX databook and price guide for 1967-1980. In it, I looked up pricing for 1972's more popular options for the RR/GTX line. You can get that info in this book but from what I've been told this book has been out of print since the early 90's.Price and production data as well as performance data are listed. I find it useful. You could also try searching MyMopar.com for reference tools on your vehicle.

The Saleman Guide is avalible here for free thanks to Barry Washington:

http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1972SalesmansPocketGuidesChryslerPlymouth-01.shtml

It doesn't seem to list pricing like the previous years' guides did. ??

Greg,

I talked to the folks at Galen's place today. They were extremely nice and helpful but they informed me there was no report available for the 72 roadrunner. So if one exists it had to come from somewhere else. Thanks for the heads up though.

L.R. Helbling,

I found the databook you referenced "used" on amazon and purchased it this evening. Thanks for the book title. I should be able to get info on most of the options our car has with it but fear it won't have the "V02" option included.

Autoxcuda,

I have been through many of the pages on the Hamtramck site. Lot of good reference info there but you're right I didn't find pricing or production percentages either. Thanks.

2 Tone,

I'll check the V02 option in the data/price guide tonight and will let you know if there is info about it. Just for curiosities sake, what is the V02 option?

Lou

Lou,

V02 is a two-tone paint option. Top of the car is painted different color from the bottom, split with the vinyl trim molding. Our car happens to be two tone green, Amber Sherwood on the bottom and Sherwood Green on the top. When we purchased car I thought it was ugly but my son insisted we repaint original colors. Now that it's finished I actually really like it.

Thanks for the help. Rick

OK I'll check tonight and let you know. MyMopar.com lists the V02 as a 2 tone paint option available from 1969 to 71 so there must be an interesting story behind how it found it's way onto a '72 model. Cheers!

Rick - sorry I wasn't able to help you out with more information. We do know there was at least one other 72 runner with the V02 code

Rick, it turns out you were right. I couldn't find any pertinent information related to the 1972 roadrunner or satellite V02 paint option in the data/price guide. They talk about pricing for approximately 43 popular options that were available for the Satellite family in 1972. They mention the exterior paint codes and all the combinations of upholstery for the Satellite cars but not the 2 tone. I think however, you'll be very pleased with your acquisition when it comes in the mail from Amazon. Cheers. Lou

Eric, not a problem at all. You've helped more than you know with the nest forum threads I researched while we were building the car. The other V02 car you referenced I believe is the yellow with black top car that I sent a pic of the fender tag to you quite a while back when I found it for sale on Craigslist. So far it is the only other 72 RR I've been able to find. There are probably more out there but I haven't been able to find them. I guess I could put "1 of 2 known to exist" on our spec sheet but I was really hoping to make a more definitive statement that I could back up with documentation. I know you track these cars. Can you tell me how many you have logged?

Also, I know you told me about at least one 71 that was a V02 code. If I remember right it was the same colors as ours on fender tag but now painted orange. Do you know of any others?

Thanks for your help. Rick

Lou,

I'm sure I will like the book. In my opinion you can never have too much reference material and I managed to get the used book for 10 bucks shipping included so I'm happy.

Rick,

IIRC, the book went to print around 1986 and lists values for Fair, Good, Very Good and Mint condition Satellite based cars. The prices will make your eyes pop but they were all based on market conditions in 1986. Bear that in mind. Also, I am assuming that the prices mentioned for the relevant options listed are all valued in American dollars in the model year in question and not in 1986 dollars. I just think it is a reasonable assumption because it is not clearly explained in the book.

Awesome information!! Thank you Eric!!

I thought the 71 GTX was the same as ours, thanks for the correction. Would you mind telling me how many total cars you have logged now? I know it was quite a few a couple of years ago.

Thanks again.

I actually had the GTX recorded incorrectly in the database for awhile...may have been when I told you about it before.

I have about 1500 cars in the database now spanning 1971-72. Unfortunately I haven't been as active in finding new info for the last couple years...life sometimes gets in the way.

Eric,

Life may get in the way but 1500 is pretty impressive to me!!!! I think my database has 7 fender tags. LOL

As you have learned, there are more known to exist.

So why speculate? Even the registry can't know all that exist.

And while I don't have any '72 numbers, I do know that 164 US-spec 1971 RRs were built. Total production was half of that for 1972, but I wouldn't want to speculate there were half as many two-tone cars for 1972....but you get the idea of its rarity.

I have no intention of speculating, that was the reason for the thread. If I am understanding you correctly, you have documentation that states/shows there were "164" US-spec "V02" coded Roadrunners made in 1971?

Yeah, but saying, "1 of 2 known" is speculation, no? grin

Yes!

It is from a report compiled by Galen Govier, so I prob can't post it but that's what it shows.
