I'm think about swapping the auto to a manual in a '96 360 1500. Will the NV 3500 from a 3.9L swap the to 5.2L or 5.9L that has an automatic? I am mostly interested in the "direct fit" of the bell and transmission. It seems that there are more manual trucks in the JY that have a 3.9L.

I already understand that the flywheel, crank sensor and PCM would need to be changed and flashed.

I found an outfit that told me that they could flash the PCM so that missing torque converter would not throw a code.

Thanks

That's been done before. Search usenet group alt.autos.dodge.trucks, author "Dane". He heavily documented his misadventures with the swap.

Couple of links to get you started below:

It will work. You need a v8 flywheel and crank sensor. A pcm for a manual transmission v8. And to keep things simple a wiring harness for a v8 manual truck. I did this last summer, something similar anyway. I took the v8 from my 99 auto ram that was wrecked and put it in place of the v6 in my 97 five speed ram. Very easy swap, and yes the trans definitely bolts to the v8 motor. My 97 truck was already five speed to begin with so I didn't have to go thru the trouble of hanging a clutch pedal or cutting a hole in the floor etc. But that's no big deal if you have the donor parts.

Good, good and good. I'm not sure if I'll go through with it or not. May just sell the truck.

I knew about the hardware items. And like I said, I found an outfit that can reflash the PCM so that you don't get an engine code for the missing torque converter. On occasion I will see a manual truck in the junk yards. If I got crazy, I'd grab everything including the column, prop shaft as well as the the trans mount.

Here's the guys that will flash the PCM.
