I know I'm going to buy an Aluminum radiator of some sort but I haven't a clue which way to go as far the fan set up. Just want the 440 to stay cool.

Yes we really need that info to give the best info. Myself on a street/strip car thats mostly street I still like the normal belt driven mechanical waterpump setup like the factories used. Thats what I use but I did add a pusher fan to the front of my rad on a switch that I can turn on in heavy traffic to help if needed since my eng is modded. Ron

Probably all street. It's a 440 bored 40, cranked turned, factory rods with ARP bolts, lightweight Racetech pistons, TF 240 heads, Mancini Roller Rockers, MP dual plane intake, comp hydraulic cam, can't remember the grind and a 780 SS Quickfuel Carb attached to a SST T-56 Magnum

Three row rad, stock type pump with belt, and a clutch fan! Reliable, more than enough. Be sure you use a good shroud.

My 65 440 with 12.5 domes and radical I run a Champion rad from Ebay.March under drive pulleys and 18 inch stainless flex fan.Was running a stock untouched 65 C body rad for years.Jack slipped and broke it so went champion. Its street strip and never gets hot.yeah the electric fan guys say no flex fan but after almost 30 years never a problem. My kid ran a stock rad and same fan setup in his 62 413.No problesm ever with it and he put probally lots more miles than most.Used to drive it 60 miles to the track race and drive home.Rocky

For what you describe, I'd use a stock style viscous clutch fan and a high flow water pump like the Milodon.
Have this same setup on my dad's road runner w/ a close to 500 hp 440-6...runs 180° all day even in 100+ degree summers. Uses a stock replacement style 26" radiator for an AC equipped car.

Ok, thanks everyone. Found out my cam is the Comp hydraulic xtreme energy hi lift 285/297 545 lift. Seems like most people are thinking clutch fan and I already ordered the Milodon high Flow water pump and so I also need a good shroud..

for crying out loud. ditch the engine driven fan get either a single electric or a twin electric fans on a light weight aluminum radiator. wire them up through a relay and a thermal switch and the fans will only run when you need them and no parasitic loss on your engine.

Does a clutch fan only kick on when the motor reaches a certain temp? Never had one

Clutch fan runs all the time but slower than pulley speed, the clutch is filled with fluid similar to a torque converter. The thermal ones spin faster as the temperature rises.

Thats all well and good till the elec fan dies or pops a fuse. That happened to me cost and me a win. Never did figure out why it tripped and it never happened again.

I apply the KISS principle. Especially on street/strip or purely street cars. My race car I will run elec pump an fan simply because I can regulate starting line temp better.

On my wagon I like my Champion rad high flow mech pump and derale 19.5 belt driven fan with factory shroud. Never any issues. I havent seem north or 190. The parasitic loss is not enough to justify it especially on a street car.

Ok
